On this episode of Neon Galactic, we interview author, philosopher, psychologist and integral theorist Zak Stein about human consciousness, the state of the world, and how the two interrelate.

Stein is a widely sought-after and award-winning speaker on the future of education and contemporary issues in human development. 

He is a co-founder of the Center for World Philosophy and Religion, and his work has appeared in a number of academic journals including, American Psychologist, New Ideas in Psychology, Mind, Brain, and Education, Integral Review, the Journal of Philosophy of Education, and The Journal of Integral Theory and Practice.

In this interview we discuss the nature of the meta-crisis now facing our species, a catastrophic merging of numerous crises that are demanding humanity develop new skills or potentially succumb. 

We also discuss the nature of human consciousness, the definition of religion, and how our modern assessment of value has become problematic. 

His approach to these conundrums, and that of his allies, seems to revolve in part around the acceptance of long-denied human capacities, the recognition of consciousness as a fundamental ingredient of reality, and the reinsertion of value as a guidepost for unfolding human experience.
