  • The Causes of the regrets of the dying (647)

Since yesterday, for the rest of the week, I am getting you prepared for Change Your Life Week here on ZEN commuter.  It happens next week and the goal is pretty self-explanatory.  We often go through life thinking we have hundreds of years to live, that we can make changes later, say sorry or laugh more.  The reality is that life does end, and sometimes quickly.

Bronnie Ware, a nurse who tended to the needs of the dying, wrote an amazing book that discussed the regrets of those who were on their death beds.  Here it is how it is described on Amazon

"Bronnie has had a colourful and diverse past, but by applying the lessons of those nearing their death to her own life, she developed an understanding that it is possible for people, if they make the right choices, to die with peace of mind. In this book, she expresses in a heartfelt retelling how significant these regrets are and how we can positively address these issues while we still have the time."

Today I want to look at those regrets one by one and see why they are happening.  Tomorrow we will talk about how to go about making sure those regrets are never realized.

  • 8 Things to Know Before Starting to Work Out

I have a few friends who have admirably decided to start working out again.  They used to do it with some frequency but have fallen to the ever common work too much - ditch self care paradigm.  I have to say it may be the most common but it is not the healthiest.  In fact, it is the exact opposite, it shortens your life.

But enough of that downer talk.  Today I want to share an article with you that helps you understand some keys points before starting a workout habit.  It's a great article that I will of course chime in on.

  • The Science of Not Eating Late at Night (644)

I am starting a new goal for my fitness.  Right now my body fat percentage is average.  I am not overweight.  Which is good.  But I am not a fan of being average. So I did some calculations and determined that I want my body fat percentage to be 12%.  To do that I need to lose 22.11 pounds of fat.

I am lucky that I have the knowledge to accomplish it.  Here's the thing though.  I never knew if eating healthy food at night would impede my ability to lose weight.  I have just learned that it does and I am going to share with you today why that is.

  • Clutter Creates Chaos (642)

Don't hate me too much today because they episode has a ton of merit.  I know I was going to write about fitness and Nutrition this week but I couldn't bear to pass up on a great article I read in regards to readying 5 Minute mojo.

It has to do with clutter.  As you know I am a pretty retentive guy. I like order.  Retentive or not though, it serves me, and now I know why. Come listen and hear for yourself.

  • The Truth About Carbs...Finally! (641)

I am not sure when it happened but between Paleo enthusiasts and Doctor Atkins carbohydrates got the worst rap ever.  Even though I have flirted with the idea of following a Paleo diet, I couldn't get my head around it.  No disrespect intended for those who do, but it just seems to me that we need all types of macronutrients.

Of course if you cut out carbs you are going to lose weight, because you are cutting down on calories for the most part.  But soon your energy levels will drop and your thinking will become hazy.  Carbs are energy.  Just like anything though you need moderation.  That is the hugest reason why Americans have trouble staying lean.  They eat too much. They lack moderation.

Of course I know it isn't that simple but certainly moderating your intake for the amount of activity you do will have profound results.

Today I want to finally clear the air about carbs.  I researched and found a great article that explains it best.

  • Healthy Brain, Blood and Eyes: All Hail the Beet

It has been a while since I have talked about that beautiful machine we call a body.  Today though, I am going to make amends.  Originally I was going to talk about the five most nutrient dense vegetables, but each of those five had so many benefits I figured it would be too much.

So I limited it to just one killer (or actually lifesaver), the beet.  Like you, I was never a huge beet fan.  I never knew how to make them work in a recipe.  I didn't even have recipes for them.  Now that I have a juicer though I can get that beety goodness each morning.

We are an impatient people.  We all want everything now.  That includes a career, a family, success and financial security.  Did you stop to think that you are already there.  Maybe your desire to have everything now is not simply your belief but one passed on to you by society.

At some time in your life quite possibly now, you may feel that you should be further along than you are in life.

Today I talk about the fallacy of that notion and why you might think so.
