In this 2nd session of the Silapathikaram Mutrothal (Full Reading of Source Text) we read the first chapter of the the first part (Pugar Kandam) - Mangala Vaazhthu Padal.

The poet starts the epic invoking praises to Moon, Sun, Rain, and Pugar city. He then proceeds to expound on the merits of Pugar city and the clans of the heroine and hero of the epic - Kannagi and Kovalan.

Then their wedding is described and how they are showered with blessings from their loved ones.
