  • Gem Mint Collectibles Interview

Stephen Small started off selling comic books online under the moniker "Gem Mint". That name became how online buyers referred to him. It seemed like a no-brainer for him to use it when he launched his YouTube channel.

Gem Mint Collectibles is a channel that focuses on pop culture collectibles, most notable high-end statues, key issue comic books, comic omnibuses, and more recently Funko Pops. The channel has grown tremendously since the first video upload at the end of 2017. There are over 50K subscribers at the time of this interview.

Gem Mint is recognized as an online influencer. Statue companies and comic book publishers often send product for him to analyze and review on the YouTube channel. The in-depth videos don't pull punches or sugar-coat the reviews. This is a major reason the channel is looked upon as a source for the quality of statues, comics, omnibuses, and now Funko Pops.

Stephen is a proponent of having the hobby pay for itself. The pieces he keeps in his collection are curated wisely for future worth. We are waiting anxiously to see what his next collection will be.

  • David Yost Interview

If you are a fan of the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, you'll recognize David Yost as Billy Cranston, the original Blue Ranger. David was kind enough to answer our questions in this interview. You'll also find out if he is on Team Cake or Team Pie.

David Yost is an American actor most notably known for his role as Billy the Blue Ranger on the international television series The Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers. Yost completed over 200 episodes of the series and starred in the feature film Power Rangers: the Movie. The feature film was produced by some of Hollywood’s leading producers like Jon Landau (Titantic & Avatar) and Suzanne Todd (the Austin Powers franchise & Alice in Wonderland).

He graduated high school from Amador Valley High located in Pleasanton, CA. Yost attended Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa graduating with a degree in Communications and Dramatic Arts.

Like many actors, Yost moved to Hollywood with the dream of making it big and within three months of being in the city, he landed the role of Billy, the computer literate superhero, on Power Rangers. Since leaving the series, Yost has turned his attention to behind-the-scenes work in the Entertainment Industry. He has worked on and produced many reality television shows most notably The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills for Bravo and Temptation Island for FOX. The play was about six different individuals dealing with HIV/AIDS in various situations. The proceeds from the play went to benefit Children’s Hospital AIDS Center and the entire production raised over $25,000. Yost is credited with raising $5,000 for the hospital and the reviews for his performance from LA Weekly Theatre were highly favorable. Yost continues to raise money and advocate for APLA as well as Project Angel Food and The Trevor Project.

  • Michael Rooker Interview

I was lucky enough to score an interview with prolific actor, Michael Rooker. Even though he usually plays hard-edged characters, he is one of the nicest guys you'll ever talk to. He answers all our silly questions about his career. You will also hear his unique answer to our cake or pie dilemma question.

    Michael Rooker IMDB bio

Michael Rooker was born on April 6, 1955 in Jasper, Alabama. When he was thirteen, his parents divorced and he went with his mother to live in Chicago. He caught the acting bug while attending college, and began appearing in local stage productions. On first breaking into film, his intensity and "don't-mess-with-me" good looks were highlighted to chilling effect as he title character in Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986), filmed in 1986 but, due to its controversial nature, not released until 1990. Since that widely noticed and highly praised performance, much of his career has been spent playing brutes, villains and psychopaths. However, his occasional turns as a "good guy" are always well-acted and a welcome change for a talented actor too often typecast.

2017 marks an exciting time for Rooker, as he starred in two films premiering just two months of each other. On March 17, audiences saw Rooker in Blumhouse Tilt's indie horror thriller The Belko Experiment (2016). The film is the terrifying yet humorous look at a group of employees that become guinea pigs in a company-wide experiment that leads them to either kill their fellow employees or be killed themselves. Returning to his indie roots, Rooker starred as maintenance worker, Bud Melks, one of the employees trapped in the office building, who may or may not be able to kill his fellow staff member. On May 5, Rooker reprised his role as Yondu in the highly anticipated sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017). The film follows the same group of galactic underdogs saving the universe to a stellar soundtrack. Rooker's breakout performance earned him critical acclaim, as audiences were introduced to a more dramatic Yondu. The film went on to earn over $145 million domestically its opening weekend and has surpassed its predecessor by grossing over $850 million worldwide.

Rooker made his film debut, playing the title role in Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986), a film based on the confessions of serial killer Henry Lee Lucas. It was here that audiences were first introduced to Rooker's impeccable ability to channel a character's idiosyncrasies and subtleties. He has also starred in some of the most iconic films, such as Mississippi Burning (1988), Sea of Love (1989), JFK (1991), Tombstone (1993) and Jumper (2008) to name a few. In August 2014, Rooker starred in one of the most memorable franchises in the Marvel Universe, Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), as Yondu, the blue-skinned renegade space pirate and surrogate father to Peter Quill. The film went on to gross over $700 million at the worldwide box office and spent five weekends atop the box office, more than any other film in the Marvel Universe.

On the television front, Rooker is best known for his series regular role as Merle Dixon on AMC's hit series The Walking Dead (2010). Audiences loved to hate the ill-tempered redneck hunter and were sad to see him killed off the series in season three. Rooker has completed a variety of stints on some of the most prominent series on television: Criminal Minds (2005), CSI: Miami (2002), Las Vegas (2003), Law & Order (1990) and Archer (2009), among others. Additionally, Rooker's talents go beyond both film and television. He adds his voice to various video games, including The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, and Lollipop Chainsaw.

  • Star Trek Picard Season 1 Episode 1 review with SPOILERS

It seems like everyone has their own streaming service any more. CBS decided to throw their hat in the ring with CBS All Access. They plan for their big draw to be the Star Trek franchise. The first big show made exclusively for their streaming service is Picard. This series picks up years after the events of Star Trek Nemesis and focuses mostly on Captain Jean Luc Picard.

In the first episode we learn Jean Luc was able to retire from Starfleet. He is living on the grounds of his vineyard in France, Chateau Picard. We learn he left Starfleet over a disagreement in the the events during and after Nemesis were handled.

After being re-introduced to Jean Luc, the story jumps over to Dahj. This character seems to be really getting her life set up the way she wants it with a good boyfriend and a great job lined up. That is until some assassins pop into her apartment and kill her boyfriend. They place something on her head and the readout tells them she hasn't been activated yet. They then place a bag over her head and we learn what they meant by activated.

Something clicks in her mind and she takes out all the assassins with the bag on her head. She has visions of Jean Luc so she searches him out. She finds him, but decides to leave so she doesn't endanger him.

Jean Luc searches through the Starfleet archives to try to find out what is happening. Dahj rejoins Jean Luc only to be jumped by more assassins. One of their helmets is damaged enough that you can see they are Romulans. Dahj's luck runs out and one of the assassins is able to take her out before he dies.Jean Luc also finds out they may be able to restore Data from just a few neurons.

The story jumps to another new character. It appears Dahj has a twin sister, Soji. This sister appears to be working with the Romulans as she is talking to one in the middle of a hangar full of Romulan ships.

The big reveal is at the end of the episode as they pan out from Soji in the hangar to reveal the location is actually..... ON A BORG CUBE! dun, dun DUNNNN!

We really liked the first episode. There was a lot of nostalgia seeing some of the Star Trek: The Next Generation people/events. According to the previews we will be seeing a few more before the end of the season.

Have you seen episode 1 yet? Did we miss any references/easter eggs? Let us know in the comments.

We have a Google Voice number where you can call and leave us your thoughts. If they are good, we will use them on the show. The number is (575) 323-1332.
