Zia Comics Nerdcast

"I Am Lenny"

The Lenny half of the Reel Screeners was unable to film this week so I got the opportunity to sit in the co-pilot's chair. With theaters being shut down since early this year and most of the blockbuster movies having their release dates pushed into 2021, we've been burning up the interwebs streaming entertainment into our living room. Beto and I discusss what movies, series, and shows we have been watching. From The Boys to Cobra Kai to Tenet, see what we thought about these shows and more.

Little known fact, Marvel Comics actually had a brothel in Nevada that employed mutants. The mutants that worked there had particular abilities that allowed them to give clients their ultimate pleasure without actually making physical contact with them. This brothel is only mentioned in a handful of issues.

Since there was no actual physical contact between workers and clients, there wasn't a lot of scrutiny or protest about that story-line. If Marvel ever decides to pursue a Black Label series of stories like DC Comics, I believe this would be a very interesting story.

Darren Davis is the publisher behind comic book biographies of such celebrities as Justin Bieber, Stormy Daniels, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and of course.... Joe Exotic and Carole Baskin!

Darren fills us in on how he became the publisher at TidalWave Productions. He may or may not divulge some upcoming sequels to Infamous Tiger King, a new comic about an award winning country music singer, and a prominent political figure. But most importantly he lets us know which side he is on.... Cake or Pie!

With all non-essential workers being banished to their homes, a lot of streaming is going on. I took the opportunity to catch up on a lot of stuff I had been meaning to watch and to binge some of the new content. Lenny and Beto (The Reel Screeners) do a lot of movie reviews. With the theaters also being closed, they too were pushing the bandwidth limits at their houses. We thought it would be a good idea to drink and talk about what we were watching during our self isolation.

Larry gives Talk Nerdy to Me a big shout out... and commits a little Freudian slip in the process!

Larry Welz was born & raised in Bakersfield, California, home of Buck Owens & Merle Haggard (OK, Merle was actually from Oildale, right across the River), where he studied Drama & did Theatre in High School. In 1967 or so, he hitched a ride North to San Francisco to draw Comics for the coming Revolution. His work in such comic books as Yellow Dog, Bakersfield Kountry Komics, Funnybook, San Francisco Comic Book, Captain Guts, and Cherry Poptart is an important, if obscure, part of comic artwork history.
