  • Zim & The Husky Fella (Fall Ep. 1)

We're back after a LONG hiatus and what a stupid time to be alive. Your host Mike "Zim" Zimmer and The Husky Fella Brian Barrett discuss the point at which we are at in the sports year amid Covid-hell. Typically we're talking College Football Previews in advance of the coming season. However, there'll be no Buckeyes football to discuss this year after Big Ten comish Kevin Warren canceled the season. But will we get any college football at all? We discuss. We also talk NHL bubble, the crazy baseball season and of course the horrible Thom Brennaman debacle. Please join us weekly starting now!

  • Kevin Doyle: You'll be on the Celtic Ray (Ep.8)

Everyone has a story, it's just that some people's stories are more interesting. That is the case with Kevin Doyle, founder and owner of The Celtic Ray Public House in Punta Gorda, Florida.  We've been talking about Kevin's unique story from his birth in Dublin, Ireland, rearing in Manchester, England and immigration to Florida in the early 1980's. We've talked about his family, his career path and the founding of the Pub, one of the oldest Irish pubs in Florida.  In this episode, we talk about surviving 2004's Hurricane Charlie, the potential demolition of the building (while staff were in it) and when he took on an investor and they eventually locked him out and tried to take over his pub.

    Enjoy!

  • Kevin Doyle: You'll be on the Celtic Ray (Ep.7)

Everyone has a story, it's just that some are more interested than others. That's the case with Kevin Doyle, owner & Publican of the Celtic Ray Public House in beautiful Punta Gorda, Florida. We've been exploring an incredible life story with Kevin and the founding and forming of the Pub. As we move into the late 90's and early 2000's, we now explore some of the concepts that Kevin wanted to instill in his Pub, including the idea of "we" with his staff and trying to understand what is called the 80-10-10 rule.  The early days of the pub also included some interesting bar staff. We explore that, the nearly immediate need for expansion (a theme that would keep going for a long, long time!) and talk about the early days of the Pub.

  • Kevin Doyle: You'll be on the Celtic Ray (Ep,6)

Everyone has a story, it's just that some are more interesting than others. Such is the case of Kevin Doyle, publican, founder and owner of The Celtic Ray Public House in Punta Gorda, FL. Last episode we talked about how Kevin, with $41 in the bank managed to start a pub. A bit of "mystic banking", loans from friends and help from even more friends made a dream a reality. No more waiting around on "one day", it came together  and has been here since 1997. In this episode we talk about how it got rolling in the very earliest days. Join us as we talk about the interesting life story of Kevin and the evolution of an institution--The pub--as it has become over the last 20+ years.

  • The Beer Makers (Ep. 1)

This is the podcast recording of our Facebook Live event from Thursday May 21st at Fort Myers Brewing. We recorded this informative & entertaining hour featuring Fort Myers Brewing owner/founder Rob Whyte, his brewer TJ Jewell and their guests Michael Rose from South Cypress Brewing in Naples as well as Bill Hahn from Bone Hook Brewing in Naples.  We discussed all manner of things about the state of the business in craft beer, the first craft beer they ever drank, styles of beers they do and don't like brewing and all sort of other laughs during this event. We're hoping to do this again soon with different beer makers!

  • Kevin Doyle: You'll be on the Celtic Ray (Ep. 5)

Vol. 5: How to build a Pub with $41. Everyone has a story, it's that some people's are more interesting than others. This is the case with Kevin Doyle, founder and owner of the Celtic Ray Public House in Punta Gorda, Florida.

We have been chronicling Kevin's life story from being born in Dublin, Ireland, growing up in Manchester, England and then coming to Florida in 1981 and then becoming an American Citizen. A long winding road of life work with many highs & lows, flourishing opportunities as well as valleys of immense struggle have brought us to this volume. Here we arrive at the very start of the Pub and how with a vision, some brave confidence and a little faith--Oh, and only $41 in the bank --was how the pub got started.

  • Kevin Doyle: You'll be on the Celtic Ray (Ep. 4)

Vol. 4: The Struggles and the Seeds. Everyone has a story, it's just that some are more interesting than others. Such is the case of Kevin Doyle, the owner of The Celtic Ray Public House in Punta Gorda, Florida. Perhaps, the oldest Irish Pub in Florida? However, the story isn't just about pints, live entertainment, Fish-N-Chips, jokes and friends down at the pub. There's more to the story than the 24-years the pub has been around. Previously we had talked about his being born in Dublin, growing up in Manchester, his work life in the 1970's and most recently his arriving in America and never leaving. In this volume, we talk about a time of struggle and drifting that many people do in their life's journey, their employment, with their family and the years go by. Some are marked by larger challenges, highs and many lows. Along the way, the inspirational seeds would be planted. We'll talk about the time leading up to the idea that the pub could be a thing of reality. Join us as we explore these harrowing times.
