  • The Book of Romans, Part 11: Judgment, Judgmentalism, and the Jews I (Rom. 2:1-11)

by Elder Chris McCool, Pastor (preached on July 21, 2024)

In Romans 2, we begin by looking at the difference between judgment and judgmentalism. There is no question that we are to exercise proper judgment in this life, but we are never to be judgmental in the exercise of that kind of discernment. Our judgment must be in accord with God’s standard of judgment! Paul then takes the Jews to task for being judgmental – i.e., looking down on the Gentiles and being self-righteous in their judgments. Join us today as we begin looking at chapter 2 of Romans.

by Elder Chris McCool, Pastor (preached on July 7, 2024)

As we conclude chapter 1 of Romans, we are examining the display of the depravity of man. The Apostle Paul shows us the underlying condition of depravity, along with the inward display of that depravity. He also examines the outward display of depravity – its manifestation in this world. • The Book of Romans, Part 8: The Wrath of God and the Depravity of Man II (Rom. 1:18-32)

by Elder Chris McCool, pastor (preached on June 16, 2024)

As we continue our exposition of Romans, we are in the process of learning about the depravity of man, which is the reason for the wrath of God. Today, we begin looking at how God’s wrath interacts with man’s depravity, and we see that it is exercised not only at the end of time in the great Judgment, but also here and now in this present evil world. Join us as we dig further into these matters in chapter 1 of Romans.

  • The Book of Romans, Part 6: The Wrath of God Revealed II (Rom. 1:18-20)

by Elder Chris McCool, Pastor (preached on June 6, 2024)

We continue today in Chapter 1 of the Book of Romans. As we began to see in the first half of this sermon, God’s wrath is real, and it is revealed to all the world “from heaven”. As we continue exploring this concept, we learn that God’s wrath is indeed a righteous wrath. It is never exercised indiscriminately; rather, in every instance, it is applied in just the right way! And finally, we see that although the elect children of God all deserve His wrath just like the non-elect, our sins were judged in Christ and we will never have to stand in eternal judgment for them. Join us as we continue our exposition of this inspired book of systematic theology.

  • The Book of Romans, Part 5: The Wrath of God Revealed I (Rom. 1:18-20)

by Elder Chris McCool, Pastor (preached on June 9, 2024)

In the verses under consideration today, we learn first that the wrath of God is “revealed from heaven”. While it is clear from Scripture that the spiritual message of the gospel is something that only a spiritual being can understand, the wrath of God is revealed to all – including the unregenerated non-elect! Secondly, we learn that His wrath is indeed real. It is not a fictionalized story made up to scare children: God’s wrath is very real, and is exercised from time to time in this temporal world. Join us today as we begin to see the reality of God’s wrath and its revelation to the world.

  • The Book of Romans, Part 4: Paul’s Ministry to the Romans II (Rom. 1:8-17)

by Elder Chris McCool, Pastor (preached on June 2, 2024)

As we move on into the first chapter of Romans, we are examining Paul’s own description of his ministry to the Roman church. After declaring his loving care for them, he began to speak of the burden he felt to preach the gospel to them. Then he set forth the power of the gospel, which is NOT to save eternally but is rather to save the believer in a temporal sense. Join us as we continue looking at the great truths of this inspired writing.

  • The Book of Romans, Part 3: Paul’s Ministry to the Romans I (Rom. 1:8-17)

by Elder Chris McCool, Pastor (preached on June 2, 2024)

As we continue our exposition of Romans, we are still looking at some preliminaries found in Chapter 1. In the verses today, we see Paul’s ministry to the Roman church. He had great love and care for them, which reminds us that dry theology is not enough: we must also have love one for another! Paul’s loving care for the Romans is evident throughout this epistle, and as he describes his ministry to them we see that it is a ministry based upon love. • The Book of Romans, Part 2: An Introduction II (Rom. 1:1-7)

by Elder Chris McCool, Pastor (preached on May 19, 2024)

Yesterday we began looking at the book of Romans, which is the only inspired systematic theology that exists in the world. We began to see that Paul, in his salutation to the saints at Rome, set forth first his credentials, and then his concern for them. He continues to demonstrate his conviction to preach the truth to them, as we will see in the rest of this amazing book.
