Ghostly

010 Iroquois Theater Fire

Listen Later

In Ghostly’s tenth episode, Pat and

Rebecca explore one of Chicago’s most tragic stories, the Iroquois Theater
fire. In 1903, the Iroquois Theater caught fire during a performance and over
600 people died. With all this tragedy, do spirits still linger in this place?

Questions explored in this episode: What

happened the day of the fire? Did the theater follow all the right fire
prevention rules? What happened when people tried to flee?  Why is the alley behind the theater called
Death Alley? Is the theater haunted? Is Death Alley filled with spirits still
upset with their fate? Did anyone go to jail for this fire?

In this episode Pat gives the history

of the Iroquois Theater and what happened the day of the fire and its aftermath. Then
Rebecca tells the ghost stories associate with this place, including the alley
behind the theater.

Firefighters in the burned out Iroquois Theater
Iroquois Theater balcony where the greatest loss of life happened. The fire escapes out to the alley were not installed.

As always, Pat and Rebecca debate

what is fact and what is fiction in these stories. Listen to both sides and
decide what you believe. They go through each one, debating the evidence. Be
sure to listen for the “Closing Arguments” to help you make your choice.
