Today on The Startup Chat we are taking a look at the things that motivate founders and startups.  Steli says he used to think we are intrinsically motivated, but now he thinks more in terms of we all have certain strategies to motivate ourselves and things we do to motivate others.  Hiten looks at motivation as what causes somebody to take action and when you figure that out you’ll know what motivates them.

For Hiten, other people motivate him and he is also motivated by creativity.  Steli’s motivation comes from personal growth and expanding the boundaries of his comfort zone.  Steli says when something scares him, there’s something there; it’s the potential for growth and learning and living life fully.  Hiten sums it up by stating that personal growth is what motivates people.

Today’s Tips:

Steli: Think right now of one thing that you’re afraid of and then ask yourself what would happen if you would do it and follow that trail into wherever it leads you.

Hiten: If you’re lost in trying to find motivation or don’t realize what motivates you, then just make a list of all the times that you feel you’ve truly grown in your life and you’ll find patterns.
