Francis de Sales, Augustine, and Bernard of Clairvaux on the glorious freedom that comes from detachment, particularly detachment from an inordinate affection for wealth, possessions, health, reputation, and sensual pleasure. Growing in detachment from these things frees us for something much greater: the love and mercy of God, who delights to care for our every need, and the proper place all the above are intended by God to have in our life.
