I just got engaged.

No silly...to my podcast listener. I’ve been married for years to the most wonderful woman in the world. She’s the best thing that ever happened to me. She’s smart, she’s beautiful...and oh yeah, she sometimes helps me edit my podcast show notes.  BUSTED!!!! Let’s see if she keep this in...but I guess you’ll never know.

Back to my podcast listener. When it comes to engaging him or her. We’re not talking about a life long commitment here. We’re talking about a connection. Let’s go as far as bond.

I think real engagement with your podcast listener happens when you share something. Particularly a moment during your podcast. And, more particularly a moment when you find something in common.

You probably already know how to engage your listener because you’ve probably experienced it yourself AS a listener. Have you ever felt like a podcaster was talking right to you? Or, maybe it was another medium like a book, TV show or even in real life with a friend or a dynamic public speaker. You had a moment and it likely created a memory or even made you take action.

These moments can be really powerful. These are the moments you need to create if you want your listener to take action - like subscribe, connect with you directly or become a client. But, not enough podcasters are engaging with their listeners on the right level.

These levels start with the easiest engagement and, when executed well, lead to popping the big question: Will you be my client/buy my stuff/sign up for my thing?
