Does the title "Son of God" refer to a preexistent being who became human in Jesus? Does "Son of God" refer to the second person of the Godhead? The earliest New Testament gospel, Mark, does not seem to think so. Rather, Mark teaches that Jesus is the royal Son of God who suffers and dies as God's authorized and highly empowered human Messiah.
