There is a delicate balancing act constantly going on between your gut and blood stream to make sure there is enough fluid, concentrate, and the right pH. While we are out during a race, this balancing act becomes a bit more complicated as we are doing our best to replace carbs and electrolytes lost to keep up with energy demands.
