What are you sitting on that needs to be carried?
Yep, that'll preach. The things that you sit on are the things that you have collected over the years. Some good, some not so good, either way, there is a treasure in what you sit on.
There's a story in the bible about a man that sat near a healing pool, and it says that he was there for quite some time, 38 years to be exact. Now, the crazy part is…. that is a long time to be near a healing pool and not be healed. The story says that he showed up every time the waters were stirred but never was able to get in because he had no help.
Listen, you are probably thinking… “why the heck didn't he just dive in… or if I needed a healing, I would have done what it took to make it happen.” And you are absolutely right, jump in, get your healing, and walk away. But there was something definitely different about this guy and his story.
When Jesus showed up, He simply said, “Do you want to be made well?” The guy had every excuse in the book of why he couldn't get in the pool. But if you notice, Jesus never asked about the pool, or about why he was there. The bible also tells us that Jesus knew this dude's condition, and Jesus showed up with a question. Now, you are probably thinking, “If He knew, why isn't He healing him?”
Here it is….. The guy was never crippled, he was just sitting on a mat, the thing that he should be carrying and using for a short period of time, now became his dwelling place. See, there was nothing wrong with the guy sitting by the pool, what was wrong was he wasn't ill, cripple or unable to walk. He sat on a thing that at the moment he needed to rest. But this thing he sat on, now became his place of refuge.
Are you in a place of false refuge? Are you sitting on something you ought to be carrying to your next destination?
