100 Words Or Less: The Podcast

It's good to admit when you are wrong and I did that with Dylan on this weeks episode. I wrote off Cloud Nothings for no reason beyond my own personal misconceptions and boy, that was silly. They are a great band and I had to have Dylan Baldi, the lead singer/brainchild, from Cloud Nothings to discuss many things including life in Cleveland, libraries and evolving your sound over time. Get into it!

Sludge metal/doom/stoner...whatever you want to call them, Eyehategod is a completely unique and incredible band which is why I was happy to throw open the podcast studio doors (aka the internet) and invite the vocalist, Mike Williams in for a chat. We discuss nihilism within the bands music, how his reputation sometimes precedes him and living for today. It's a great discussion and hope you enjoy!

Podcasts are cool and today I have the host of one of my favorite podcasts around, The Memory Palace, Nate Dimeo on the show. I knew he had a connection to punk and hardcore, but after our conversation it's WAYYYYYY deeper than I could have ever imagined. We discuss pursuing art as a career, Ebullition Records and being a full time podcaster. Listen and learn!

Full Of Hell rules. Dylan Walker is a nice human and we made some podcast magic here. I was stoked to bring Dylan on and discuss his upbringing in rural Pennsylvania, the importance of Hydrahead Records and living life in van (and being happy about it)! Let's do this!

It's Small Brown Bike time! I love this band and saw them many times in the early 2000's (and Mike was actually one of the first interviews I ever did when I was writing for zines, remember those?) and fell in love with the band. They've subsequently released more amazing music and been active here and there when shows were a thing. Mike had been on my list for some time to have on the show, and we made it happen. We discuss his life in rural Michigan, being compared to Hot Water Music and following the flow (sounds mysterious, but it makes sense when you listen to the chat).

Let's get aggressive. Chase Mason is the vocalist for the punishing desert band, Gatecreeper (who just released an absolute BANGER of a record called "An Unexpected Reality") and is a great dude. We discuss him growing up in Arizona, his recovery journey through addiction and his wide ranging taste in music. Let's GOOOOO!

A little bit left of center guest but a great one nonetheless is Emily Gullickson who has made her life by exploring her passion of horse racing and betting. I discovered her through a podcast called "Gamblers" where in she tells her story but most interestingly, speaks about her history in punk/hardcore. I reached out to her to find out more and had her come onto the show. We dove deep into a variety of topics like her putting out Spazz records, being a straight edge adult and the ethics behind horse racing. Loved this chat and I know you will too.

Man, do I have a treat for you. This week we have Pete Appleby who played in Count Me Out and Renee Heartfelt, both of them who were incredibly important bands to me (and many others). We dig in with Pete to discuss how both bands may have been a few years too "early", the trials and tribulations with the business side of music and his life as a dentist now. Enjoy!

If you haven't heard of Spanish Love Songs, you my friend...are in for a treat. Their latest LP "Brave Faces Everyone" was one of my favorites of last year and I wanted to bring Dylan (the lead vocalist/guitarist) on the show to discuss their rise in popularity in Europe, comparing the movie/music industry and being a contrarian by nature. Listen and enjoy!

I love Thou. This is a band that took awhile for me to grab onto but once I did (recently mind you) it's taken hold and won't let go. I had to have Bryan, the vocalist, on the show to punish him about my obsession. We dove into his metal core roots, life in Louisiana and the DIY spirit that has permeated his life.
