100 Words Or Less: The Podcast

Belgian Hardcore represent! I have Colin H. van Eeckhout from Amenra (who are much more than a hardcore band mind you) on the podcast today to talk about so many things including the longevity of the band (over 20 years!), transitioning into being a "full time" band and of course, the Belgian hardcore scene and him getting into heavy music. I just got into the band and feel dumb for not checking them out sooner, but I am glad I did.

Everyone's favorite class clown of metal, Adam D is on the pod this week! He's an incredibly prolific musician playing guitar in Killswitch Engage and Times of Grace and a producer of many of your favorite records. We dig in deep to his first band, Aftershock, his life in and around the Massachusetts hardcore scene as well as his sense of humor. Good times were had by all and hope you enjoy this episode!

Oh hell yes, Matt from The Bronx/Mariachi El Bronx is hanging with me on the podcast today. We get into it by discussing his life growing up in Los Angeles, how important 90's punk was to him as he started to develop his own music tastes and the insane times that he experienced when The Bronx was in the middle of a major label bidding war at the start of the band. Check it out!

The man who invented "emo rap" is on the show today, Joe Mulherin from Nothing, Nowhere! Obviously I am poking fun a bit at the hyperbole there but this chat was spectacular. Joe is a real ass dude that has a lot of experience within the punk/hardcore subculture, is vegan and straight edge which maybe from the surface...you wouldn't pick up on. We had a lively discussion about all of those things and more. Dive in and enjoy this discussion!

I love bringing episodes like this to you all because it came DIRECTLY FROM A LISTENER. Matt Frazier plays drums in the really great indie rock band Local Natives and he grew up in and around the punk/hardcore (specifically in the "Chain Reaction-core" days) scene so we dig deep into that while also discussing his life growing up in the Inland Empire, how close the band is as well as stalking Radiohead (not really, but it's a fun story). Listen and enjoy!

The DUDE is on the podcast this week. By the DUDE I mean Mr. Mike Schliebaum who is the lead shredder in metal stalwarts Darkest Hour, Be Well and Battery. He's an incredibly prolific musician and someone who I call a friend. We talk about his new signature guitar, being an "asshole" and how he finds himself fitting in. What an episode!

This week on the podcast we have the legend Kevin Seconds on the show. We discuss the re-issue of their seminal record, The Crew and what it was like growing up in Reno. He also talks about the fact he never wants to be the "old guy on the porch" when it comes to music. I couldn't be more excited to share so I hope you enjoy!

A Pacific Northwest hardcore/metal legend, Greg Anderson is on the show this week. He played in Engine Kid, Brotherhood, currently runs Southern Lord Records and also plays in Sunn 0))) and Goatsnake. In short, he's done a ton of rad stuff within independent music, so I asked him all the questions. We covered the inception of the PNW hardcore scene, commercial success and musical isolation.

New England Metal and Hardcore staple Brian Fair from Shadows Fall/Overcast is on the show this week! I am VERY excited as I have admired his work for many years and worked alongside of him when he played in Shadows Fall (I worked at Century Media while they were releasing their earlier LP's) but never got to spend time with him. We changed that and discussed a ton of things like his early touring life, his diverse music tastes and of course, his dreadlocks. GO!

Today we have Brian Moss the band behind Hanalei and the underrated band, The Ghost. I love both of his bands so when the opportunity to have him on the show came up, I jumped at it. Brian and I discuss his experience being a working class band, his occupation as a teacher and how important the outdoors is to his well-being. He just released his latest full length with Hanalei called "Black Snow" and I urge you to check it out.
