100 Words Or Less: The Podcast

It's damn Ken Andrews week on the podcast! I couldn't be more thrilled to have the man behind Failure, Ken Andrews, on to discuss their new record, the insanity of the early late 80's and early 90's major label boom and Cave In. We go all over the place but Ken is such a pleasant chat, I could have hung with him for another hour. Oh don't worry, I also bring up Year of the Rabbit as well.

It's the most wonderful time of the year where we gather around our microphones and discuss what records myself, Joey and Jeremy enjoyed the most. Joking aside, it's one of my favorite things to do...talk about music! It's a long one, so enjoy!

Playlist of all our favorite records!

Here is a thoughtful chat with my new friend Kei Yasui who plays guitar in Have Heart and the awesome Drk Blu as well as a master of the webs (and design). We get into it and discuss the Boston Hardcore scene as Have Heart was getting their feet wet, design work and of course, the insane reunion shows that HH played (and how important they were to me and many others). Listen and enjoy!

I am privileged to bring on Ken Shipley, the co-founder of an incredible label called Numero Group that specializes in releasing and archiving music of all styles including (and not limited to) Northern Soul, Gospel, Folk and more recently early screamo. Their re-issues of some seminal recordings from Codine, Karate, Indian Summer and more made me fall in love with the label even deeper so I HAD to have Ken on the podcast. We discussed his upbringing in the punk/hardcore scene, his curation roots and the process (for him) of putting out records.

Rest in Power to Gared O'Donnell. This conversation originally was published in 2012 and was one of the first conversations I had for this podcast. He was a special human and I am saddened that he is no longer with us. Listen to this episode and listen to the entire PMFS catalog...it's well worth your time.

I am very pleased to welcome prolific solo artist, Emma Ruth Rundle to the podcast. She just just released an incredible new LP called Engine of Hell that is some of her best work, so I had to dive in and chat about the early 2000's in the LA music scene, her tumultuous childhood and her proclivity to collaborate.

My new friend Chris Teti from The World Is...and Silver Bullet Studios ducks into the podcast this week with amazing results! We dive into DIY transitions, eclectic music tastes and why his grandmother thinks tour is like American Idol. Joking aside, Chris is a very devoted dude to the DIY music scene and I hope you enjoy the conversation!

You read right? You should because it's like...really fun and stuff. One person you should definitely become intimately familiar with is the author, music nerd and all around good guy, Dan Ozzi. He just released a new book called Sellout in which he chronicles all the up's and down's of bands from our beloved indie community jumping into the big pond of MAJOR LABELS. Joking aside, Dan's book is a incredible piece of work and I had to have him on the pod to punish him about Staten Island, The Cable Car Theory, writing and so much more.

A man of many talents, Geoff Garlock from Orchid, Panthers and his most recent project Low Estate comes to hang with us this week. He's also the host of such podcasts like Docs Till Death and The Cannon Canon so as you can see, he's a busy dude. We discuss his history with comedy, growing up with Connecticut hardcore and the "glory days" of Vice. It's a really fun discussion so pull up a chair and come hang out.

What a damn band. Snarls hails from Columbus, Ohio and released an incredible debut last year that I fell in love with so naturally, I had to pick the brain of someone in the band so here we are. Chlo White sings and plays guitar in the band and we discussed her suburban upbringing, emo and wearing your heart on your sleeve. This was an emotional conversation and loved having it.
