This episode features a conversation with Mike Gauss, Gauss Management Research and Engineering, Inc. (GMRE) CEO, and podcast host Pete Codella, Go Utah’s communications director. Gauss started GMRE in 2005 to serve clients in the aerospace, defense, and engineering sectors with a focus on business integration.

As a retired member of the U.S. Air Force, Gauss earned his engineering degree and developed requirements for air and crew simulators. That proved to be a good transition from active duty to defense contractor. He discusses what led him to create GMRE, what he learned about not leaving any money on the table and creating a corporate culture of optimism. Gauss tells Codella how he created a work environment that attracts the best engineers and scientists, a successful business model, and the secrets to keeping an eye out for hidden intellectual property. He also talks about significant projects GMRE is working on, why he chose northern Utah as his home base and the importance of recruiting and maintaining a talented workforce.
