On May 3, 2007 the McCann family were on holiday at a resort in Praia da Luz, (located in the Algarve area of Portugal) when their 3 year old daughter Madeleine disappeared from her bed. Immediately, Portugese police began an investigation and the McCann family took to the media in their desperate search for their missing daughter.
This case has been described by The Daily Telegraph as "the most heavily reported missing-person case in modern history."
