Imagine you’re scuba diving in the ocean, watching corals and colorful fish flitting by, when suddenly an enormous shadow appears above you. This leviathan is a basking shark — one of the scary sea monsters that isn’t really capable of doing harm to anyone. Basking sharks are filter feeders, just like baleen whales: they open their large mouths to swallow plankton and don’t even have teeth.
