In this episode, we talk with our special guest Dr. Karen Mueller about her research on burnout with physical therapy students and faculty and the implications for students and new clinicians entering the workforce.
Karen is a professor and founding core faculty member at Rasmussen University. She is the author of the book, “Communication from the Inside Out: Strategies for the Engaged Professional,” and has authored several articles pertaining to the role of physical therapy intervention in end-of-life care.
Karen shares some significant findings of their first study published in 2018 in The International Journal of Health, Wellness, and Society on “Patterns of Academic Burnout, Emotional Distress, and Coping” with doctoral physical therapy (DPT) students.
We also talk about the results of their new study on “Self-compassion and Compassion for Others in Physical Therapy Students, Faculty and Clinical Instructors” and implications for new clinicians entering the workforce.
