1865: A View From The Forest 🔴⚪️ #nffc

This was a night where Forest’s Head Coach and foreign players showed that they really understood the meaning of the occasion. Sure, it was only the Carabao Cup, but it was against Derby, and a young Forest team showed to a man that they wanted it more than their woolly counterparts.

The Reds may not have had the possession, but they certainly knew what to do with it, as they took the lead in a manner that Pep Guardiola would have admired, with all eleven men playing a part.

A dominant performance from the Reds after two early goals from Lolley and Grabban, and a wonderful moment as skipper Michael Dawson scored his first Reds goal in fifteen years. In truth, the Reds could have scored twice as many, with Sow, Ameobi and Grabban all guilty of missing when it looked easier to score. Sabri Lamouchi again showed his ability to pick a team for the occasion, and to use his substitutions well. Match report by Steven Toplis.

The headlines screamed about the controversy leading up to Forest’s equaliser, and the potential penalties, but from a Forest perspective there was much to feel encouraged by, as the Reds showed real steel to gain a point against a strong Leeds team.

It’s a new season at The City Ground and Rich Ferraro is joined by Steven Toplis, Baz and the Maradona of the Midlands to review the opening day defeat against West Bromwich Albion - the overall feeling seems to be disappointed but not despondent. Talking points include Aro Mujic, Alfa Semedo and Ben Watson, Rafa Mir’s impressive cameo, and how Sabri Lamouchi responded both during and after the match.

In the second part of this podcast special, Rich Ferraro, Steven Toplis and the Maradona of the Midlands look back over the 20-something managers to grace the City Ground over the last 25 years. Part 1 covered the years from Frank Clark through to Joe Kinnear; now it is the turn of the last fifteen years’ worth of managers. There have been a lot of them, with the longest serving incumbent being Billy Davies (over two spells); but can you think of a worse place to start than Gary Bloody Megson?

After much stuttering, grumbling and threats of mutiny, the Forest fans were lifted by a Joao Carvalho masterclass to end a run of four straight defeats and dent Middlesbrough’s play-off hopes. Baz reports on a new formation, strong performances at the back and upfront, and how the tactics enabled Forest to get the best out of the Portuguese wizard.
