Have you ever “accidentally” been on the other side of the tracks? All of a sudden you realize how the “other” side lives? I was in Kansas City recruiting for Vassar and I was at the right address, but on the wrong side (I was east instead of west or vice versa). As I finally drove up to the correct address, the guard greeted me, and as I drove past the brick buildings and manicured lawn, I found my “reserved” visitor spot. How was it that just half a mile the other way was so different?

If your child attends a public or religious school, perhaps you have wondered what goes on behind that guard shack? WELL, this parent I’m interviewing today knows a thing or two about that. Her son was enrolled in one of those elite private schools, but decided he’d rather spend high school at the local public school. 

As parents, you give your children what they want and need to be happy. I get it. But this mom KNEW what she would have to do to just keep up with her son’s private school peers. With that, she enrolled Matteo in public school, but had a plan of attack to still arrive at the same happy college ending her son had always dreamed of. 

This is her story.
