Loyal Audience! Please enjoy this podcast which was recorded YESTERDAY immediately following our wargaming event at SUNY New Paltz. Kelly and I, along with long time friend and mentor Dr. John Manning, ran two scenarios for Dr. Bezerra's classes, each of which focused on the Battle of Qadesh (1274 BCE). We put a lot of time into crafting the scenario, playtesting it over and over to ensure that both sides had the opportunity to win. The students had a blast, and dare I say, everyone involved saw the value of game based learning. Kelly took a ton of photos and video, interviewing students about their experience to get a better sense of what they enjoyed about the experience. We'll more than likely build some sort of montage for our Youtube page. Please enjoy the episode, and keep a look out for a second episode about more of the strategies that were used in real life as well as the game when it comes to fighting Qadesh.

This guy is way too accomplished for me to just blather about, so I pulled his bio right from his website (it's below this blurb). Matthew Farber, Ed.D. is an Associate Professor of educational technology at the University of Northern Colorado and the founder of the Gaming SEL Lab. His research is at the intersection of game-based learning (GBL) and social and emotional learning (SEL). He studies how playing and making games can cultivate empathy, perspective-taking, and ethical decision-making. He also works in youth initiatives around game design as a form of self-expression.
Dr. Farber has been invited to the White House, to keynote for UNESCO, and he has been interviewed about games and learning by NPR, The Washington Post, Fox News Radio, APA Monitor on Psychology, EdSurge, The Denver Post, The74, Fast Company, USA Today, and The Wall Street Journal. He is an advisor to Peekapak, Quandary (MIT’s Learning Games Network), Evolved Play, and Slam Out Loud, and has advised Noggin (Nick, Jr.).
