Concerned about bonuses removed from the banks.
Buarach bónais bainte de na bainc.
The Government has confirmed that the limits and other restrictions that were added to salaries and bonuses in the country's banks during the financial crisis over ten years ago will be eased.
Tá sé deimhnithe ag an Rialtas go maolófar na teorainneacha agus srianta eile a cuireadh le tuarastail agus bónais i mbainc na tíre le linn na géarchéime airgeadais os cionn deich mbliana ó shin.
Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe presented the proposal to the Government today.
Is é an tAire Airgeadais Paschal Donohoe a chuir an moladh faoi bhráid an Rialtais inniu.
As a result of the decision to accept the proposal, banks will now be allowed to pay bonuses of up to €20,000 to their employees.
De thoradh an chinnidh glacadh leis an moladh, beidh cead feasta ag na bainc bónais suas le €20,000 a íoc lena bhfostaithe.
Restrictions on other benefits, such as health insurance and childcare, will also be lifted.
Cuirfear ar neamhní freisin na srianta a bhí ar shochair eile, leithéidí aráchais sláinte agus cúraim leanaí.
In the case of the Bank of Ireland, the €500,000 restriction on salaries will also be abolished.
I gcás Bhanc na hÉireann, cuirfear deireadh chomh maith leis an srian €500,000 ar thuarastail.
That's because the State has no more stake in that bank.
Sin mar gheall nach bhfuil aon sciar níos mó ag an Stát sa bhanc sin.
When the State's share in AIB and Permanent TSB is further reduced, the restriction on salaries in those banks will also be lifted.
Nuair a laghdófar tuilleadh sciar an Stáit in AIB agus Permanent TSB, cuirfear deireadh leis an srian ar thuarastail sna bainc sin leis.
The restrictions were introduced over a decade ago when the misconduct of some senior bankers came to light.
Tugadh na srianta isteach os cionn deich mbliana ó shin nuair a tháinig mí-iompar roinnt baincéirí sinsearacha chun solais.
For some time, however, the banks have been petitioning the Government to relax - or cancel - the restrictions on the basis that they cannot afford to compete with other top financial institutions.
Le tamall, áfach, tá na bainc ag achainí ar an Rialtas na srianta a mhaolú - nó a chealú - ar an mbonn nach bhfuil sé d'acmhainn acu dul in iomaíocht le forais airgeadais eile dá mbarr.
The State gave €64 billion to the banks to rescue them when the housing market collapsed over ten years ago.
Thug an Stát €64 billiún do na bainc lena dtarrtháil nuair a chlis an margadh tithíochta os cionn deich mbliana ó shin.
The Government's policy is now to sell shares in financial institutions taken over by the State at that time.
Is é polasaí an Rialtais anois sciartha i bhforais airgeadais a thóg an Stáit ar láimh an tráth úd a dhíol.
The Financial Services Union welcomed the Government's decision today and said ordinary bank workers would benefit from the easing of restrictions.
Chuir an ceardchumann Aontas Seirbhísí Airgeadais fáilte roimh chinneadh an Rialtais inniu agus dúirt go mbainfeadh gnáthoibrithe bainc sochar as na srianta a bheith maolaithe.
