There are 651 patients in hospitals across the country still waiting for a bed, according to the latest daily figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Association.

495 of the patients are in emergency departments and the other 156 are in wards.

The situation is worst at Limerick University Hospital, where 116 people are waiting for a bed - 56 of them in the emergency department and the other 60 in wards.
