A 0.5% increase in interest rates announced by the European Central Bank.
Ardú 0.5 faoin gcéad ar rátaí úis fógartha ag an mBanc Ceannais Eorpach.
The European Central Bank has announced yet another increase in interest rates.
Tá ardú eile fós ar rátaí úis fógartha ag an mBanc Ceannais Eorpach.
It is not an unexpected announcement, it is the sixth increase in interest rates since last July.
Ní fógra gan súil leis atá ann arae is é an séú hardú ar rátaí úis é ón Iúil seo caite.
This is a 0.5% increase – the same amount as the last increase last month.
Ardú 0.5 faoin gcéad atá i gceist – an méid céanna leis an ardú deireanach an mhí seo caite.
This latest rise means that the prime lending rate is now 3.5%, up from 0% a year ago.
Fágann an t-ardú is déanaí seo gur 3.5 faoin gcéad atá sa phríomhráta iasachta anois, le hais 0 faoin gcéad bliain ó shin.
It was thought that the European Central Bank might not raise interest rates today since it emerged yesterday that it was running with one of Europe's biggest banks – Credit Suisse – to find fresh funding.
Bhíothas den bharúil go mb'fhéidir nach n- ardódh an Banc Ceannais Eorpach rátaí úis inniu ó tháinig sé chun solais inné go raibh sé ag dul rite le ceann de na bainc is mó san Eoraip – Credit Suisse – teacht ar mhaoiniú úr.
In light of this and after the collapse of the SVB bank last week, financial experts are concerned that any strict policies introduced by the European Central Bank could lead to a new banking crisis.
Ina fhianaise sin agus tar éis do bhanc SVB loiceadh an tseachtain seo caite, tá imní ar shaineolaithe airgeadais go bhféadfadh aon dianpholasaithe a thabharfadh an Banc Ceannais Eorpach isteach, go bhféadfaidís géarchéim nua baincéireachta a tharraingt.
That concern has since been somewhat alleviated since it was announced during the night that Credit Suisse has received fresh funding from the Swiss Central Bank.
Tá an imní sin maolaithe beagán ó shin ó fógraíodh i gcaitheamh na hoíche go bhfuil maoiniú úr faighte ag Credit Suisse ó Bhanc Ceannais na hEilvéise.
The increases in interest rates are part of an economic strategy in order to lower the very high rate of inflation in the euro area.
Cuid de straitéis eacnamaíochta atá sna harduithe ar rátaí úis d'fhonn an ráta an-ard boilscithe i limistéar an euro a ísliú.
According to the latest figures, the inflation rate was 8.5% last month, which is a decrease of 0.1% from the previous month.
De réir na bhfigiúirí is deireanaí, 8.5 faoin gcéad a bhí sa ráta boilscithe an mhí seo caite, ar ísliú 0.1 faoin gcéad é ón mí roimhe sin.
It is not enough, however, since an inflation rate of 2% is required, it is said, to restore a calm base to the economies of the euro area countries.
Ní leor é, ámh, ós ráta boilscithe de 2 faoin gcéad a theastaíonn, a deirtear, le bonn socair a chur an athuair faoi gheilleagair thíortha limistéar an euro.
