"Good or excellent quality" in bathing water establishments.
"Caighdeán maith nó sárchaighdeán" i mbunáite uiscí snámha.
The country's bathing waters are of good or excellent quality, according to a new report from the Environmental Protection Agency.
Tá caighdeán maith nó sárchaighdeán i mbunáite uiscí snámha na tíre, de réir tuarascála nua ón nGníomhaireacht um Chaomhnú Comhshaoil.
Of 148 swimming waters, it is said, 144 of them have the required basic quality or above, that's 97%.
As 148 uisce snámha, a deirtear, tá an bunchaighdeán riachtanach nó os a chionn sin i 144 acu, sin 97 faoin gcéad .
In fact, 117 of them are said to be of good or excellent quality, which equates to 79%.
Deirtear go deimhin go bhfuil caighdeán maith nó sárchaighdeán i 117 acu, ar cothrom é sin le 79 faoin gcéad .
It is the local authorities who decide what constitutes a bathing water spot and these places are regularly monitored from the beginning of the year.
Is iad na húdaráis áitiúla a chinneann cad is láthair uisce snámha ann agus déantar monatóireacht rialta ar na háiteanna sin ó cheann ceann na bliana.
The EPA claims that the contents of the report show that good management of bathing waters offers high protection to people who benefit from them.
Maíonn an GCC go léiríonn a bhfuil sa tuarascáil go dtugann dea-bhainistiú uiscí snámha ardchosaint do dhaoine a bhaineann leas astu.
The report indicates that there has been a great improvement over the last few years at Traan Sruthan in Portrichran in the north of County Dublin and at Forbacha Beach in Co. Galway.
Tugtar le fios sa tuarascáil go bhfuil feabhas mór tagtha le cúpla bliain ar Thrá an tSrutháin i bPort Reachrann i dtuaisceart Chontae Átha Cliath agus ar Thrá na bhForbacha i gCo na Gaillimhe.
On the contrary, however, it is said that the water is of poor quality in three places, that is, the Beach Began in Ballybriggin in the north of County Dublin; Women's Beach in Buncrana, Co Donegal; and Women's Beach in Spidéal, Co Galway.
Os a choinne sin, áfach, deirtear go bhfuil droch-chaighdeán san uisce i dtrí áit, mar atá, an Trá Thosaigh i mBaile Brigín i dtuaisceart Chontae Átha Cliath; Trá na mBan i mBun Cranncha, Co Dhún na nGall; agus Trá na mBan sa Spidéal, Co na Gaillimhe.
On the contrary again, and fortunately, improvement work is said to be underway or to begin in those three places.
Os a choinne sin arís, agus ar an dea-uair, deirtear go bhfuil obair fheabhsúcháin ar bun nó le tosú sna trí áit sin.
Runoff from homes and farms, dog fouling and algal blooms were the biggest contributors to bathing water pollution last year, says the EPA.
Eisilidh ó thithe agus ó fheirmeacha, salú ag madraí agus blás algach ba mhó ba shiocair le truailliú uiscí snámha anuraidh, a deir an GCC.
The swimming season officially starts in Ireland on June 1st and ends on September 15th.
Tosaíonn an séasúr snámha go hoifigiúil in Éirinn ar an 1 Meitheamh agus críochnaíonn sé ar an 15 Meán Fómhair.
