Challenge before the Government in the 2024 Budget.
Dúshlán roimh an Rialtas i mBuiséad 2024.
'The Government faces a major challenge in relation to the 2024 Budget' says Finance Minister Michael McGrath.
'Tá dúshlán mór roimh an Rialtas maidir le Buiséad 2024' a deir an tAire Airgeadais Michael McGrath.
The minister pointed out that it is not easy on one hand to give the appropriate support to the people of the country and to the economy, but on the other hand to ensure that inflation does not get worse.
Thug an t-aire le fios nach bhfuil sé éasca ar lámh amháin an tacaíocht chuí a thabhairt do phobal na tíre agus don eacnamíocht, ach a chinntiú ar an lámha eile nach dtéann an boilsciú in olcas.
Michael McGrath was speaking at the annual Dublin Chamber of Commerce dinner last night.
Bhí Michael McGrath ag labhairt ag dinnéar bliantúil Chumann Tráchtála Bhaile Átha Cliath aréir.
He said that the economy of the country was generally strong and stable against anything that has gone out of order in the international markets.
Dúirt sé go raibh eacnamaíocht na tíre go ginearálta láidir agus seasmhach i gcoinne aon ní atá imithe as cor ar na margaí idirnáisiúnta.
The minister also referred to the strength of the labor market here.
Thagair an t-aire freisin do láidreacht an mhargaidh saothair anseo.
'The corporate tax that has been given to the state has grown dramatically for several years' he says 'but this will not last forever'.
'Tá fás as cuimse tagtha ar an gcáin chorparáideach atá tugtha don stát le roinnt blianta' a deir sé 'ach ní mhairfidh sé seo i gcónaí'.
'To that end we cannot use that money to put towards permanent expenditure' he says.
'CHuige sin ní féidir linn an t- airgead sin a úsáid le cur i dtreo an chaiteachais bhuan' a deir sé.
'The government has also set aside money which it says is for capital projects' says Michael McGrath.
'Tá airgead curtha i leataobh ag an rialtas freisin a deir sé ar mhaithe le tograi caipitiúla' a deir Michael McGrath.
Two weeks from next Tuesday (October 10) the budget will be presented to the Dáil.
Coicís ón Mháirt seo chugainn (10Deireadh Fómhair) a chuirfear an buiséad faoi bhráid na Dála.
