"Measures of Israel
"Bearta Iosrael 'níos cosúla le díoltas ná le féinchosaint".
The Taoiseach says that Israel's self-defense is not the only thing going on in Gaza at the moment, but that it is like taking revenge.
Deir an Taoiseach nach féinchosaint Iosrael amháin atá ar bun i nGaza faoi láthair, ach gur cosúla é le díoltas bheith á bhaint amach.
Leo Varadkar made this speech as Israeli ground troops surrounded Gaza City this morning.
Rinne Leo Varadkar an chaint seo tráth a bhí trúpaí talún de chuid Iosrael ag timpeallú chathair Gaza ar maidin.
He believes, the Taoiseach said, that Israel, like any other state, has the right to defend itself and that they have the right to go after Hamas so that they cannot do this again.
Creideann sé, a dúirt An Taoiseach go bhfuil cead ag Iosreal, fearacht stát ar bith eile, í féin a chosaint agus an ceart acu dul i ndiaidh Hamas le nach féidir leo é seo a dhéanamh arís.
"People should never forget", he added, "that this started with the Hamas attack on Israel in which 1,400 people were killed".
"Níor cheart do dhaoine dearmad a dhéanamh go brách", a dúirt sé freisin, "gur le hionsaí Hamas ar Iosrael inar maraíodh 1,400 duine a thosaigh sé seo".
"But it's not just self-defense that I'm seeing right now", said Leo Varardkar," but something that is going towards revenge, and that's not where we should be now, and that's not the way that Israel will maintain its freedom and security for the future".
"Ach ní hí an fhéinchosaint amháin atá á fheiceáil agam faoi láthair", a dúirt Leo Varardkar," ach rud éigin atá ag dul i dtreo an díoltais, agus ní hé sin an áit ar cheart dúinn bheith anois, agus ní hé sin an bealach a mbuanóidh Iosrael a saoirse agus a slándáil don todhchaí".
"Israel listens to the countries it considers to be its friends and allies, such as the United States", he said, "but I'm not sure, frankly, that they listen carefully to what we tell them."
"Éisteann Iosrael leis na tíortha a mheasann sí atá ina gcairde agus ina gcomhghuaillithe lei, ar nós na Stát Aontaithe", a dúirt é,"ach nílim cinnte, le fírinne, go n-éisteann siad go cúramach lena ndeir muid leo."
He said despite this that this would not stop this State from taking a position as members of the United Nations and the European Union.
Dúirt sé ina ainneoin sin nach stopfadh sé sin an Stát seo ó sheasamh a ghlacadh mar bhaill de na Náisiúin Aontaithe agus den Aontas Eorpach.
Leo Varadkar admitted that Israel would not regard Ireland as close friends like the likes of the United States and Germany.
D'admhaigh Leo Varadkar nach mbreathnódh Iosrael ar Éirinn mar dhlúthchairde ar nós leithéidí na Stát Aontaithe agus na Gearmáine.
He also promised that the State would increase the humanitarian relief for Palestine.
Gheall sé freisin go méadódh an Stát an fhóirithint dhaonnúil don Phailistín.
The Taoiseach was speaking to reporters in South Korea this morning.
Bhí an Taoiseach ag labhairt le tuairisceoirí sa Choiré Theas ar maidin.
The Israeli Embassy in Dublin later said in a statement that Israel is 'acting within international law' and that they are 'taking drastic measures to avoid killing civilians' The Embassy admitted that there has been strong criticism by the Taoiseach and the Tánaiste on Hamas 'since the beginning of the war'.
Dúirt Ambasáid Iosrael i mBaile Átha Cliath i ráiteas ina dhiaidh sin go bhfuil Iosrael 'ag gníomhú taobh istigh den dlí idirnáisiúnta' agus go bhfuil 'bearta as cuimse á nglacadh acu chun marú sibhialtach a sheachaint' D'admhaigh an Ambasáid go bhfuil cáineadh láidir déanta ag An Taoiseach agus ag An Tánaiste ar Hamas 'ó thús an chogaidh'.
The statement said that Hamas must release all 242 Israeli hostages, and that it should always be 'remembered that it was Hamas that started all this' and that 'rocket...
