Join Swami Padmanabha and friends as they weave the last line of the third verse of Siksastakam, "kirtaniya sada hari," into the context of the first three lines:
"Be as humble as the quiet grass,
as enduring as the ancient tree.
Seek not the praise of man but honor every soul you see.
With this heart, sing the name of Hari."
Exploring the profound opportunity of chanting Krishna's name, the discussion focused on one’s attitude and intention while chanting. Simply repeating the letter sounds without the right mindset doesn’t truly connect us with Krishna. The quality of our attitude shapes the efficacy of our chanting, and unhealthy habits, like multitasking during japa, only deepen the disconnect.
Sri Nama is compared to both a lion of fierce mercy, and a thief whose sole desire is to steal our hearts with his sweetness capable of expertly navigating the barriers we erect around our hearts. Krishna's humility is such that when we finally reciprocate his love, he feels indebted to us, grateful for our arrival.
This discussion brings us to a deeper understanding of Krishna's love and how it humbles us. His divine nature is not one of demanding respect but of gently drawing us into love with him and all that is connected to him.
We are invited to live our life according to the principles describe in the third verse of Śikṣāṣṭakam and embrace the golden opportunity given by Gauranga, Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, the golden Lord.

In this fourth out of 5 sessions, Swami Padmanabha and friends explore the intertwined virtues of amānīnā mānadena: not seeking respect for oneself while offering it to others. These principles, often mirrored in scriptural verses like "Always remember Krishna, never forget Krishna," invite us to approach life holistically. The discussion circled around both the toxic and healthy expressions of these qualities and how to cultivate them sustainably.
Selflessness doesn’t mean dismissing the need for healthy validation—it means not relying on others’ opinions to define who we are. Instead, we can anchor our identity in the truth that we are Krishna's beloved. Krishna’s darshan—His gaze of unconditional love—reminds us that we are already seen, recognized, and valued by the Supreme. When we rest in this realization, the need for external recognition naturally dissolves.
Then the discussion delved into mānadena, offering respect to all, rooted in the understanding that Krishna resides in everyone’s heart. This means that every place is a temple, and every person is worthy of reverence. True respect, derived from the Latin "to look again," involves seeing others anew—beyond assumptions or prejudices—and rediscovering them continuously.
Ultimately, respect deepens into love. This love is not merely formal or diplomatic—it is a transformative connection with Krishna and everything connected to Him. Through these practices, we align ourselves with the principles of the Śikṣāṣṭakam and nurture relationships marked by grace and sacredness.

In this illuminating session, Swami Padmanabha and friends delve into the profound wisdom of Mahaprabhu’s teachings on tolerance, drawing from the imagery of the ancient tree found in the 2nd line of the third verse of Siksastakam:" taror api sahishnuna— be as enduring as the ancient tree."The discussion begins by dismantling misconceptions—what tolerance is not—before reconstructing a healthy, sustainable understanding of true endurance.
Through the example of the tree, Swami Padmanabha explores how real tolerance is not passive suffering but an active expression of compassion, selfless giving, and deep-rooted strength. A tree does not merely endure; it provides oxygen, shade, fruit, and shelter, embodying a love that is free from envy. This kind of tolerance is not about suppression but about being deeply grounded—just as a tree grows downward as much as it reaches upward.
The session also examines tolerance as an expression of forgiveness and unconditional love. How do we embody the patience and grace of Krishna, who lovingly embraces us out of joy and not mere reluctant duty? How can we cultivate a form of tolerance that is infused with empathy, rather than mere resignation?
Participants are encouraged to reflect on these teachings through practical exercises—finding ways to express forgiveness and patience toward those they struggle to tolerate.
