Gardai have launched a criminal investigation into an explosion in a homeless hostel in Dublin yesterday which killed a man.

It is understood that a device of some kind exploded in the room where the man was staying.

The man was of Lithuanian origin and was in his thirties.

Gardai believe that the device was not thrown into the room from outside and that it had been there for some time before that.
