This week I’m joined by Lisa Hanawalt the Producer and Production Designer of Bojack Horseman. Yes she actually drew all of the characters! Lisa has published 2 books with Drawn and Quarterly the first My Dirty Dumb Eyes in 2013 and The Hot Dog Taste Test (2016). Lisa is also the co-host of the Baby Geniuses podcast with Emily Heller. Lisa has won 8 awards including the Critics Choice Award for Bojack Horseman.
In today’s episode we cover Lisa’s day to day what life is like as a production designer. We touch on the process of creating a characters and bringing them to life with animation. Lisa was incredibly transparent about her insecurities about managing people and taking on her first leadership role on such a huge production. Lisa talks about what drives her to create and it might be a little unexpected. We also cover the one experience that has helped her growth.
