A story published by Futurism on Monday, November 27, accused Sports Illustrated of publishing articles on its website with fake writers created by AI. When asked by Futurism about the AI content, SI then deleted all of it. The story sent a shockwave through the sports world and cast a dark cloud over one of the once-great sports media institutions in the world. And when you peel back the past few years of SI’s business, this story — as crazy as it is — isn’t necessarily surprising.
