266: Optimize Your Learning Superpower: Lucas Root

Listen Later

Today’s show focuses on an often-overlooked resource that we each have within us: our superpower of learning. Join us for this interesting conversation about the different ways in which we learn and how to maximize our learning.

Lucas Root led numerous teams on Wall Street for over 17 years. After establishing a consistent track record of success, Lucas started his own consulting business. In addition to speaking engagements around the world, Lucas works with strong brands to help them best execute their great ideas, and he partners with businesses for training and mentoring. He has built a strong track record of successes that also includes podcasts, publications, and his bestselling “Work from Home” course. Whether leading projects for his clients or mentoring them to become empowering leaders, Lucas is a heart-centered expert in business. His passion to serve and support leaders in startups and entrepreneurship is at the forefront of his purpose to bring success and change to the world.

Show Highlights:

  • The journey that led Lucas to his current work with learning and productivity
  • Lucas defines productivity as “what I can do to be successful in the thing I need to do RIGHT NOW”
  • Lucas explains his “superpower” philosophy and his desire to accelerate his capacity to learn
  • Three paths in the mechanical process of learning (in reverse order):
  • 3. Downloading--an instant understanding with no pathway to get there; Ex: mushroom hunting
  • 2. Modeling--not to be learned from a book but copied from someone else; Ex: martial arts
  • 1. Information ingestion--learning from a book; the cheapest and most efficient way to learn; what we assume is the bulk of learning
  • Why it’s harder to learn when we are tired (we usually learn better first thing in the morning!)
  • The relationship between “processing” and “downloading” as we learn
  • Creating paths of learning and productivity when challenges come--like working from home during the pandemic
  • How all of our senses contribute to our capacity to move into the productivity of the moment
  • How to use things like specific clothing and smells for productivity
  • Why we all need to share the ways we find to turn on our “downloading ability”

I’m enrolling coaches now for my Spring Mentoring Program. Some are here for credentialing hours. Others are here because they want to become the coach their clients rave about.
Inside the program, we work on your actual coaching.
You’ll hear yourself differently.
Learn from other coaches.
Develop more presence.
And ask questions that create real transformation.
If you’re ready to deepen your skills and your impact, I’d love to support you.

Mentor Program

If you're working toward your ACC or PCC credential, or if it's time to recertify your ACC mentor, coaching isn't just a requirement on a checklist. It's one of the most transformative investments you can make in yourself and your coaching. I've taught or mentored over 2000 coaches, and I hear the same thing again and again. I came because I had to, and I am so glad that I did. Coaches tell me they walk away with renewed energy, deeper confidence and a community of peers who genuinely support each other. Here's what you need to know right now. Mentor coaching must span a minimum of three months, so the time to start is not when your credential is just about to expire. And if you complete your hours in 2026, you get ahead of the upcoming ICF changes, which means peace of mind along with skill development. My fall cohort is already filling up. Every group is capped at ten.

It's small, personal, and powerful. If you've been waiting for the right time, this is it. So head over to Star Coach Show. That’s https://starcoachshow.com/mentor/ to grab your spot or to learn more. I'd love to work with you. Now, let's get into today's show.
