STaR Coach Show

283: Stand Out from the Crowd: Meg Rentschler, MSW, PCC

Listen Later

Today’s solo show is my challenge to you in how you engage with your business and the practice of coaching so you can stand out from the crowd. Coaching is a booming, exciting field, and you need to get your message out to your target audience. Don’t be your best-kept secret! What is uniquely wonderful about you? Let’s talk about how you can own it to the fullest and have a greater impact!

In this episode, we discuss the challenges of building a business in the middle of so much noise and competition in this growing field of coaching. I’ll share thoughts about the relationship of marketing and coaching. How do these two aspects of our profession fit together? Supporting today’s overall topic of standing out from the crowd, I’ll cover the key aspects of your differentiators and your philosophy. Your clients don’t pay for coaching, but they pay for the result that comes from partnering with you on their journey.

Show Highlights:

● Why building a business is NOT easy

○ The facts: Most new businesses fail within three years, and 82% of coaches fail to succeed as business owners (From Laura Berman Fortgang, coach and author).

○ Coaches love coaching–not marketing and running a business.

○ Creating a thriving business requires time, energy, and vision.

● Three things to do to stand out from the crowd:

○ Build a brand.

○ Create a message that draws people to you.

○ Describe what you do.

● Why your goal is to appeal to your target market—NOT to everyone

● How to use your differentiators, like your failures, successes, life wisdom, motivations, beliefs, and style, to set yourself apart

● How my journaling exercise can help you take a deeper look at your life as an “informant” and how you are uniquely qualified to work with your clients

● How your philosophy embodies your core beliefs about life, your work, and what you bring TO and FOR your clients

● How your differentiators and your philosophy allow you to stand out and become the key to building your brand and sharing your message

○ Sharing your message can be through public speaking; writing books and articles; and showing up on social media, blogs, and podcasts.

● How to make the most of exploratory sessions and consults with potential clients

○ Be bold as you teach and explore with them.

○ Set the stage and clearly show what partnering with you as a coach will look like for them.

● Key takeaways from this episode:

○ Be absolutely clear about who you are and what you believe. This is what makes you stand out from the crowd.

○ Build your brand around your differentiators and philosophy.

○ Carry your unique message into all speaking and marketing opportunities.
