Scott & Shaun review the results of a 2023 Gallup Poll that appears to reflect the public’s overall waning faith in the ethics, honesty and integrity of select professions in the United States.

As humble public servants, they also offer their thoughts on possible reasons behind these declines, their thoughts on how well police officers faired compared to other government entities and their hopes for some other professions to be added to future polling.

Like most street level cops, we are often skeptical of anything that the current Department of Justice has presented as a solution to issues within our profession.

On this episode however, we discuss a recent DOJ facilitated report that recommends some best practices in the oversight of specialized police units within state and local law enforcement agencies.

The report is available at:

Based upon a recent Gallup poll, the majority of Americans feel that crime had rapidly increased in 2023 despite FBI statistics currently indicating that many major cities in the United States have seen a historic drop in murder rates and other violent crimes throughout the year.

So on this episode, we offer our thoughts on why this perception seems to be so far removed from reality for most Americans, including the police.

With dozens of law enforcement agencies in the United States operating under Department of Justice consent decrees, many feel that a pattern and practice of poor results and premium legal fees has emerged for the politicians, police and citizens that live under these notoriously vague and seemingly endless legal agreements.

Today, we discuss how the DOJ appears to be responding to some of the cities and states that are considering  improvements to their policing, without the cost and specter of a federal consent decree.

On an episode fitting for a Thanksgiving Day release, as two former narcotics detectives, Scott and Shaun are thankful to be joined by the Case Manager of Solutions of North Texas, and recovering addict, Amber Climber. Amber expresses her gratitude for how God and certain aspects of the Criminal Justice system helped her to find the way to change the trajectory of her life.

You’ll gain a better appreciation for not only the legal and personal accountability required to help individuals survive the journey of addiction, but also of the faith, determination and brutal self-assessment that can lead to true thankfulness.
