On this week’s show, Scott and Shaun welcome back Retired Chief Tony Pustizzi of the Coral Springs, Florida Police Department (see Episodes 58 & 84) to discuss the impact of a jury's recent, non-unanimous verdict to sentence convicted murderer, Nickolas Cruz to life in prison over the death penalty for his actions during the February 2018 Parkland (Florida) School shooting.

Chief Tony Pustizzi (Ret.) began his career with the Coral Springs Police Department in 1988. Over his 30-year tenure, he supervised every unit within the agency with a strong emphasis on investigations, including homicide and special victims. Tony served on the SWAT team for 15 years where the last eight he was team commander. Tony rose through the ranks to ultimately become chief of police in 2012. He also served as the city’s interim city manager and retired in March 2018 as the chief of police/deputy city manager.

In January 2019, Tony came out of retirement to serve as the special counsel to the new sheriff of Broward County upon his appointment by the governor of the state of Florida.

During the school massacre on February 14, 2018, where a former student entered Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland Florida and killed 17 innocent people and injured another 17 students, Chief Pustizzi, along with members of his agency, arrived at the school within minutes of being notified and was instrumental in organizing a complex law enforcement approach, including stopping and capturing the killer and extracting victims from within the school was initiated.

Tony now conducts trainings nationwide on school and workplace violence preparedness as he is a firm believer that seconds save lives and can attest that the Hero911 app for police would have alerted his officers minutes earlier, possibly saving lives during the incident he was directly involved in.

After our new School Resource Officer, Chris, lets us in on a new lucrative trend related to “podophilia” (foot fetish),  the boys continue their trip to the Pacific Coast with a born-and-raised California cop, Sergeant Jason Louis of TheBreifingRoom.com. Jason presents his thoughts on his twenty-plus years of service through policing in a state that is so ethnically, politically and geographically diverse.

It’s a great discussion on police training, professional responsibility and Jason's mission to help “build exemplary police officers.”

On this week’s episode, Scott and Shaun are joined by retired Royal Canadian Mounted Police Sergeant, Laurie White, to discuss her biographical book, 10-33, An Officer Down Steps Back Up.

Laurie covers her journey to and through the Mounties, and how losing her leg after being shot during the execution of a search warrant, became the path less traveled for both her and the RCMP.  Laurie overcame many obstacles, both mentally and physically, through her grit, determination and humility during the challenging process of recovery and her unprecedented return to full service.

Law enforcement officers regularly make sacrifices during their time on the job;  Laurie’s story is one that emulates the proverbial, “pound of flesh,” both figuratively and literally.

On this Quick Hit episode, the boys from 3CT talk about Shaun's return to the street and his fascination with the body worn camera, or as it's commonly known in police circles, the BWC. They also provide some perspectives on how BWC's have enhanced and even protected modern policing, particularly in the realm of citizen complaints, despite widespread initial reservations from many officers.

Scott and Shaun talk with Clinical Psychologist and University of Kansas Jayhawk, Dr. Jennifer Prohaska (Ph.D) about a police officer resiliency program that she developed to better treat the high number of police officers that experience mental health related issues throughout their careers.

The program, known as Tactical Longevity,  is unique in that it helps to address the omnipresent mental health related issues facing law enforcement through the incorporation and training of important stakeholders in every police department.

It’s an ingenious concept that relies heavily on a program very familiar to most police officers, the field training process. The program is reflective of Dr. Prohaska’s realism, humor and passion to help police officers and ultimately the communities that they serve.
