  • 3' grezzi Ep. 617 Quando lavori a contatto col pubblico

    TRASCRIZIONE [Eng translation below]

    TRANSLATION

People who work with the public do not realise the importance of kindness. So I went to an out-of-town clinic yesterday, and then I'll explain why. I went out of town, because I have a problem with my hands, with the two middle fingers getting stuck, it's something that comes, IDK, apparently it's quite common, it's called in English 'trigger finger' and in Italian IDK, I remember 'finger that gets stuck'. Anyway, it's something that I've been carrying around for a long time that you can do something with a small operation that takes 10 minutes a quarter of an hour, quite routine, which, however, when I do it, it's going to freeze my hand. Since I have it on both hands, IDK, I'll have to see whether to do it first one then the other, anyway I'm going to be with a bandaged hand for a while, so it's going to be a problem for me.
So I went, did all the tests, took x-rays and so on, and then went to this clinic that is out of town. Why? Because it is a clinic affiliated with my private medical insurance, which I have through my husband's work. I didn't choose it, he didn't choose it, it sucks, it costs a lot of money that we pay because it is deducted from my husband's salary, and with him all the other thousands of people who work where he works, a public body. And whatever, this insurance, which always does everything not to pay, to make trouble, but I use it because it allows me to make specialist visits in a very short time, without having to wait too long, and then I do not pay .
I had already been to this clinic and I had already seen this doctor who had prescribed the x-rays, now she saw me again and said, no, you have to do the ultrasound as well.
Anyway, the thing that struck me very unfavorably is the fact that this doctor had, she probably had her own things on her mind because she was absoluquite rude, absent, she got a phone call while I was there, she answered and said "ah yes yes I'll come later, no she is already here, she is in, she has already entered" referring to me who was in front of her. But then whatever, other than that, it happens that you get private phone calls at work, and nothing, it happens. However, what left me baffled was the fact that she was very, very, not even rude, however abrupt. At one point I asked "is this something that you do as outpatient operation?" - "not outpatient" - "but do I need to get hospitalized?" - "no but it is done and you leave right away"-"ah ok day hospital, sorry I was wrong it was not outpatient", and she just corrected me like she was the schoolmarm.
Anyway, I was so upset that I decided to go to another clinic that specialises in hand surgery.

    TRASCRIZIONE [Eng translation below]

No questo è oggi 27, 27 ascolti e ancora nemmeno pubblicato.
Bello, eh?

    TRANSLATION

Super self-referential episode, so if you are one of those people who don't like to hear podcasters talking about themselves, and their podcasts, I suggest you tune in to another one of my 3-raw minute episodes, as you have more than 615 episodes available to you, for a total of 1845 minutes making more than 30 hours of listening time. So if you don't want to hear about me and this podcast, go to the back catalog where all the other episodes are.
Yes, more than 30 hours I've already recorded, just think how nice it would be to have a full immersion of listening to all my raw 3 minutes one after another.
No, no, but I wanted to talk to you about something else, and that is my listening that presents me with questions that I can't solve because I know that there are six, seven people who listen to me religiously all the time, and yet the numbers waver so much.
For example, on August 15th, the day of Ferragosto, I had 607 listens, one on Spreaker, which is the platform where I publish this podcast, and 607 in other platforms. What are these listenings? Maybe one person who started listening and then in the lazy hot afternoon of the August holiday, forgot to turn off the cell phone so they were going one after another, one after another, this is my opinion, what I think happened.
But also on August 19th, 85 listens, on August 25th, 57 listens, then we go down again the usual, but also lately 25, 26 every day, then September 6th, 74, the day before yesterday 31 and yesterday 27. No this is today 27, 27 listens and still not even published. Yes I don't know what's going on.
I must confess that I don't do this 3 minute podcast to garner ratings, of course I'm happy if people listen to me but that's not the only reason why I do it, otherwise I would talk about more current topics, I would talk about more upsetting topics that attract the ire, the passions of the listeners. No, I do it more because I like to turn on the microphone every morning and jump in without a parachute, IDK, talk about the first thing that comes to my mind, as I did today.
Yes, super self-referential episode, I repeat if you have not... whatever, if you have come this far it means you felt like listening. I am running out of my 3 minutes, only 8 minutes left [seconds!] more than 30 hours already recorded together but do you realize that? A whole day spent with me. Nice, huh?

    TRASCRIZIONE [Eng translation below]

Eh. Ecco, vedete?
Comunque finiscono così i miei 3 minuti. Comunque continuerò a comprare religiosamente La Settimana Enigmistica perché mi diverte.

    TRANSLATION

If you follow me regularly you know that a few days ago I bought La Settimana Enigmistica (Puzzle Week), which I love. Here, today I'm complaining about Settimana Enigmistica because more and more often the crossword puzzle compilers, instead of putting definitions, which you either know or you have to guess it, something like that, they use English words as definitions, that is, they tell you the word in English and you have to basically translate it into Italian. That is the definition and the solution. It doesn't work that way! Crossword puzzles are not a dictionary ! Phew, what a bummer! I don't like it at all.
Another thing I've noticed is that sometimes compilers use bad words. Here, I read the 25 horizontal from G. di Muro's free 'expert' crossword puzzle. Di Muro's definition reads : "Deformed, gimp " and the solution is "cripple". Are you for real? That is, do we use these words just like that? Another thing that bothers me about the crossword puzzle of La Settimana Enigmistica, which by the way is a magazine shrouded in mystery, anyway is when they publish the jokes, the misogynistic jokes where women are always complaining, where wives are always torturing their husbands, husbands are always victims. The worst male, female, neuter, singular and plural stereotypes are carried forward.
Eh. So today I'm taking it on La Settimana Enigmistica, which also I like so much, in fact I keep doing it. This crossword puzzle for expert people is the last one I have left to do, the other two I have already done and then slowly, I always start with the hardest ones because I am pretty good at it, then when I am desperate I don't know what to do anymore I do the easy ones too. By the way there was one at the beginning that they were passing it off as for expert people and instead, to my dismay it was not only easy, super easy, really I finished it in no time and not because I was particularly focused, but really because IDK, like I'll read you the definitions: One you can trust - friend . You clean with pipecleaners - pipe. Lombard town renowned for its amaretti - Saronno. There, you see. They were all like that, in fact I did it in the blink of an eye, very fast, there is another one on the page and that one I don't even know if I can be bother to do it.
Anyway, this is how my three minutes end. However, I will continue to buy La Settimana Enigmistica religiously because it's fun.

  • 3' grezzi Ep. 614 Tante scuse (programma TV)

TRASCRIZIONE [ENG translation below e sigla iniziale a fine pagina]
Ripeto, è molto divertente, molto leggero, molto molto rilassante.

    TRANSLATION

Open-door recording today, so if you hear strange noises they are coming from the other rooms in the house or they are coming from outside because I have the windows open because it is still hot.
Today I want to talk to you about 'Tante scuse' [Many Apologies], not my apology to you, but a black and white TV show that I'm watching, I'm re-watching, on the Rai app that now finally can be seen on TV, finally Rai has made RaiPlay also as an app to watch along with Netflix and the others, although I have to say that it works very badly if you don't do, if you don't press well, if you don't wait long enough for the command to be received, it does strange things.
Anyway, thanks to this app now I can rewatch old programs and I am rewatching an old program called 'Tante scuse' that I used to watch when I was a child. A variety show of the kind that used to be done in the old days with Sandra Mondaini and Raimondo Vianello, which, I must say, is quite let's say avant-garde. In fact, the show shows Raimondo Vianello and Sandra Mondaini pretending to record a show live, so it's a meta show, and they show that, which in the fiction of the show, should be the things that you don't usually see when you do a show, that is, between takes, between recordings, conversations with the head clap that gets the audience in the room clapping.
Again, it is very entertaining, very light, very very relaxing. I find it very relaxing because it's not violent, it's not particularly aligned to the left or right politically, so it's a vision, vanilla we would say in English, just very simple.
The funny thing is that watching it from beginning to end, I realised that I know the theme songs by heart, both the opening and the ending theme songs, and, especially, since I started watching it, yesterday I watched the second episode, I have the theme song in my head, especially the opening theme song, which is a very fast, sung, very fast, very fast spiel that I imagine I must have loved as a child. Then I also recognised all the little animals, there is an animated theme song, fully animated, at the beginning and semi-animated, at the end, again there are quite avant-garde elements. Eh, I kind of miss these pure entertainment shows that neither wink, nor pretend to be smarter than they are. Yes, I'm enjoying watching it, so if some other things happen, then I'll keep you informed about future TV visions of mine from when I was little.

  • 3' grezzi Ep. 613 Acquafaba

    TRASCRIZIONE [Eng translation below]

    TRANSLATION

Friends, I made a fantastic discovery. So, let's start by saying that I really like legumes, especially chickpeas, partly because for more than 20 years I was a vegetarian, so I didn't eat meat and legumes were an integral part of my diet. But until yesterday, when I happened to buy chickpeas, or more generally canned legumes, I would open the can and the first thing I would do was wash the legumes because I thought the water inside the can was a bad thing, full of preservatives and boh, various junk. Instead, I discovered aquafaba yesterday. What is aquafaba? It's the liquid that is put inside the chickpeas and inside the cannellini beans to preserve them, or if you buy dried chickpeas and beans and soak them, I try to do that, I would like to do it more often, but it requires preparation and planning, especially you have to think about it at night, later put to boil for ages, so I buy canned. However, if you are good and you soak things, that water is good too.
This water is called aquafaba, the two names, bean and water come from Latin, and it is a fairly recent thing. It was identified in the 2000s , in 2015, when apparently a French tenor realised that this water inside the jar could be whipped to stiff peaks just like egg whites.
Now, I womder: how is it that a person comes up with the idea of trying to see if the water in the chickpea jar can be whipped to stiff peaks? I don't know, but I'm glad he did because apparently you can use it to make meringues and to make cakes and yesterday I used it as a substitute for olive oil, which I actually like very much but it's hyper hyper caloric and, yes, and this thing is a characteristic of this aqua faba is that it's low-calorie, it has very few calories, so also though, thinking about it, the basic element of meringues is yes the egg whites, but the second basic element is sugar, which by the way, anyway it's nice because I discovered something that I used to throw away, in fact I thought it was bad, and instead I discovered that it's a good thing that you can use for cooking, to make the fluffiest cakes and in short, now I'm basically buying cans of beans and chickpeas, which I don't eat or can't eat all the time, to have the water. Maybe I should buy, soak them, so I have plenty of water and can experiment.
Anyway super happy my new discovery the aquafaba. I will put the link to the recipes, try it and let me know!

    TRASCRIZIONE [Eng translation below]

Zappa sopra i piedi.

A few days ago, while wasting time on social, I was scrolling through LinkedIn which is this platform of people looking for jobs. No, really it's supposed to be a platform like that for professionals, where you present the work done by professionals, however, in the end it's always full of people who make themselves available because they want to work.
So, I was on the platform, not necessarily because I was looking for work, but because I was looking around and also because I have friends around the world that I met in the platform and with them I chat on that platform which I confess, I use more or less like a normal social media, I post my stuff there, then whoever wants to read it, or rather listen to it, or they can ignore it.
Every now and then, however, I also get suggestions from the platform that, given my professional characteristics, suggests jobs, and I usually ignore that because I really don't care about going to be a social media person for someone, it's at the end of my interests, actually I'd rather go to be a waitress at McDonald's. But every once in a while there are things that catch my attention, more because they intrigue me than anything else.
So some time ago I saw an ad by an Italian company, or a company based in Italy, looking for someone to do a podcast. I was not interested in submitting my application, because I know what these people here mean when they say podcast, I mean it's not the kind of thing I do, however, I was interested to see that there was a company in northern Italy that was asking for perfect English skills and that was planning to put up, or strengthen its team of people doing the podcast. And so intrigued by that, I sent an email saying, hey, I do podcasts, I am not interested in your work, I am not showing up for your work, however, I would like to know what you do, to meet you.
Well, actually, I also did some research, saw who they were, what industry they worked in, etc., and they gave me an appointment on Zoom. This appointment, which was surreal because the lady I talked to, the CEO, a very competent person, for goodness sake, American, yes American, and I made small talk and she couldn't frame me and said, but what do you want from us? And I was realising that I had made a mistake in contacting them, but whatever, now I was there, I might as well, and I was saying, you see I do some things a little bit particular, but surely you are not interested in... So. IDK, in the end I said, look, keep my name if you have any particular project but I don't think we will meet. Whatever, shoot yourself in the foot, what shall I say? shoot yourself in the foot.

    TRASCRIZIONE [Eng translation below]

Adesso, in questo momento Netflix sta promuovendo molto il film intitolato 'You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah', lo sto pronunciando male, ma non so come si pronunci in italiano, 'Non sei invitata al mio bat mitzvah'.

    TRANSLATION

A few days ago, that is, yesterday, Jonathan Zenti, one of my favorite podcasts, was talking in his podcast Estadeli about power couples. Who are power couples? They are the people who are together in life and also work together. Being together in real life gives more bargaining power when they are in the workplace. Why am I telling you about P power couple? Because this afternoon, lazy I didn't feel like doing anything, so I grabbed the laptop power cord I took it upstairs to my loft bed and started watching the first movie I came across on Netflix. I wanted to see something that lasted less than 1 1/2 hours and was really easy to see even so if I slept I wouldn't miss anything and I got the first one that happened, eh. Now, right now Netflix is promoting a lot the movie called 'You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah', I'm mispronouncing it, but I don't know how to pronounce it in Italian, 'You are not invited to my bat mitzvah'. About what? Why am I telling you about it? Because if two people who are together make a powere couple in the movie there is a power family. Then the movie is starring and produced by Adam Sandler, who is a big name in the box office. His wife, whose name is Jack ie Sandler, has taken his last name and plays the part of his wife, appears in the film, and then also their two daughters, Sadie and Sunny Sandler, who play, respectively, the couple's two daughters, who are also a couple in real life, so a family playing a family in a film.
And this film is produced by the father, who is also one of the best known names in the box office and is also produced by him. Imagine what it must be like to work in that film.
But why am I telling you about it? Because it's a horrible movie, it's a sensless piece of crap. Just watch the trailer and you already know what it is about. Spoiler alert: the girl will make peace with her best friend, there will be a triumph of sisterhood, and everyone will live happily ever after. It's a movie where everybody is rich, where nobody works, where nobody has any serious problems, where these girls do whatever they want, spoiled rotten. I did not like it, I absolutely do not recommend it. A great waste of time. But then (I have to confess that the last half hour I watched it at double speed because I just couldn't take it anymore), but then I said to myself but do you want to see that really in American Jewish circles they all really live like that? I don't know. I am barely familiar with Italian Catholic settings and I assure you that there they do not do these things here. Anyway IDK if you feel like wasting 1 something hour of your life, watch it, I do not recommend it.

  • 3' grezzi Ep. 610 Spiaggia enigmistica

    TRASCRIZIONE [ENG translation below]

Allora cosa abbiamo fatto?

    TRANSLATION

I woke up this morning with a craving for Settimana Enigmistica (Puzzle Week), it's been a very long time since I bought it. I used to buy it, let's say fairly regularly, in the sense that every time I went back to Italy I would buy it, or when I found a newsstand that sold Italian newspapers I would buy an issue. Then since I moved here let's say I go in periods, sometimes I buy it every week for months and months, then I forget about it, I don't buy it anymore.
Here, it's been a while since I bought the Puzzle Week. Today I had a crazy desire to buy it. Not only that, but I woke up with this image: me at the beach lying on the towel, under the sun doing the Puzzle Week. So I got my husband involved in this thing here, finished the things I was doing, by the way a very nice job that ends today but that I enjoyed so much, put on the swimsuit, prepared the bag, yay! And then we had to scramble to find a newsstand on the beach, find the puzzle week, which we found, I had brought my pen with me, then we found parking, we went down to the beach however alas wind, sirocco wind was really uncomfortable for us, in the sense that, not so much that sand was flying, because the sirocco at Poetto the beach where I go near home is the sea from outside to inside, so there was no sand moving, though it was not very inviting.
So what did we do? We took my beautiful Puzzle Week and we stood in a little bar, one of those little bars that are at Poetto, I quietly sat there in my bathing suit because these little bars are kiosks on the beach and we ordered a nice aperitif, it was now almost eleven o'clock, and we stood like that at the table doing crossword puzzles, the difficult ones of the last pages, by Bartezzaghi I think, very funny, very nice. We completed the whole crossword puzzle without even making a mistake.
Anyway, it was very satisfying, also because then, on the way home in the car, I got into rebuses and did several. And also those other puzzle things. I'm pretty good at doing rebuses and also those things vowel change, initial change, wedge, blah blah. I never do cryptographs and I'm not very good at anagrams, however for the others let's say I'm average-high and even in crossword puzzles I'm pretty good. I learned crossword puzzles as a child because my dad was a puzzle enthusiast and religiously bought Puzzle Week, and at my mom's house, I still jealously preserve one of the last issues that my dad bought.

  • 3' grezzi Ep. 609 Pessima acustica

    TRASCRIZIONE [ENG Translation below]

    TRANSLATION

Why is there always so much noise in bars and restaurants? Why when a person decides to acquire a public place, they do not think about how people will communicate once they go to visit that place, be it a bar, indeed, or a restaurant. The bars, especially, have very bad acoustics. Often, especially in art cities, but let's say more generally in Italy, a little bit everywhere bars are housed in places that have very high ceilings, sometimes even with vaulted ceilings, and this does nothing but, that is, if in churches it's okay because then you can hear the reverberation, the rumbling, everything, in the bar it becomes an unbearable cacophony.
I remember that at one time he had opened a very good pizzeria in Melbourne. After I went there the first time, I never went back because I went home without a voice. Because even to talk to the person who was next to me I had to raise my tone of voice, despite the fact that no one was shouting inside the pizzeria, however, the acoustics were such that I don't know, it was done, it's as if the sound that was being emitted was being absorbed by the walls and therefore you had to shout to maintain a normal volume of voice.
Now I know that there are some very good architects who also think about the acoustics of the spaces they create or renovate, perhaps let's say that education in acoustics that makes people even want to whisper quietly still is not very widespread.
Then, I also understand that a person who works in a bar is not going to be able to do things so slowly I support the saucer the cup also because the cup and saucer of the bar are made specifically to be resistant, to be able to be not say slammed, but laid down with less care than one would do by supporting the good china service. Yes, so I am addressing all the people who are involved in creating interior spaces, bars and restaurants. Think a little bit about how you can do to reduce the impact of acoustics, or rather take advantage of acoustics, so that people can even whisper and not go home instead, as if they had spent a couple of hours watching their C-team lose their last championship game and then that they don't go on to the B-league with something like that. Do you understand? Let's think about it and also enjoy good acoustics that help conversation.

  • 3' grezzi Ep. 608 Gratta e (NON) vinci (MAI)

    TRASCRIZIONE [Eng translation below]

No, non è assolutamente così.

    TRANSLATION

There is one thing that makes me angry about the local Sardinian newspaper L'Unione Sarda. Yes, I'm shooting on the Red Cross today, as they say. What angers me is the fact that on the one hand the regional government of Sardinia, but I guess the national government as well, I don't follow the national press or national television very much, but I guess they too have realised that ludopathy, gambling, is a very big problem and every year when the rankings are published, the percentages of how much is gambled in the various Italian cities, Sardinia takes the lion's share because it is a fairly poor region and people really believe that they can turn the day around, turn their lives around by playing scratch cards.

I very often see people coming out of tobacconists with a bunch of scratch-offs, and often even throwing them on the floor, okay, yeah. What is the problem? The problem is that on the one hand you make the programs and try to raise awareness against gambling, you explain that the chances of winning are really infinitesimal, so etc. On the other hand, however, every time someone wins any amount they put it on the front page with great celebration: someone won here, someone won there, giving the false impression to people reading that it is easy to win, that you could win too.
No, that is not the case at all. It's not true that you can win, it is true that one person will win, but it doesn't have to be you, and certainly to win, what do I know, 10,000€ maybe you wasted 40,000€, taking money from rent, mortgage up to you get the money for food.

So I would ban these news articles because, like in the old days when a person committed suicide they would jump off bridges where people go to kill themselves, they would write ah! The tenth victim! Ah! The eleventh victim! Then they stopped doing it because there were those who would emulate and say ah, I want to go, I want to be that, that's it or they would get ideas.

Similarly, weak people who read these articles maybe tempted and continue to spend the money this way. However just as you don't advertise heroin you shouldn't advertise scratch cards either. It's not that they say eh! This junkie got a hit and had a good experience. No, it is not done period. So even if among the many, among the many terrible moments, among the many nightmares of those with gambling addiction, there is a moment of a person that is not a nightmare, it should definitely not be celebrated.
