Sì, lo so cosa state pensando.

    TRASCRIZIONE [Eng translation below]

Quindi cosa fate?

Who knows how many times it may have happened to you to want to kiss an insect but not to do it out of fear of hurting, even killing, or swallowing the insect in question.Well, now you don't have to be afraid anymore because someone has invented an artificial mouth that will allow you to kiss insects.

So, let's begin. There's this boy, a young man who had this desire to kiss insects, but he realized that with our fleshy human lips it would be a bit complicated. So what did he invent? Imagine a kind of pacifier, like the ones babies put in their mouths, where on the human side there's a rubber or silicone teat that goes into the mouth, and on the other side there's a spring, and attached to the spring, there are tiny lips.So what do you do? You put this little thing in your mouth, you approach the insect, and then gently place the mini mouth on the insect in question.I'm not joking, I didn't make it up.

This thing actually exists and it's called Bugkiss, and the boy in question put it on those crowdfunding platforms, asking people to invest in a project that hasn't been made yet, so a Kickstarter, and he initially asked for $5,000, and at the moment I'm looking at the website, there are 1,420 people who have supported his request, and out of the $5,000 that were his goal and that he wanted to reach, he has reached a whopping $43,350. Now his next goal, I think, is $50,000, and he wants to make a little tongue so that you can lick the insect directly.

In short, it's a whole new world to discover. You can do it, you can buy it, so whoever wants can buy this novelty, the Bugkiss. There's a link, I'll put the link in the program notes, and for the modest sum of €10, you receive this kind of pacifier for kissing insects, along with a little book he made with hand-drawn, very poorly drawn, but intentionally poorly drawn, pictures of the various insects he has already kissed, along with notes explaining a little bit about the experience of kissing these insects.

So this summer, go around, look for insects, and make friends with an insect.

    TRASCRIZIONE [ENG translation below]

    TRANSLATION
A few days ago, in my 3 raw minutes, I was complaining about the absurdity of being forced to use plastic gloves when putting bananas in the bag at the supermarket, because people are paranoid, but also apples, also pears, people who have issues are the ones who, once at home, bite the apple, bite the pear, or eat the peel of the banana without first washing the fruit.

My friend Alessio, who listens carefully to my daily podcast, but he does it monthly, so he listens to about 20-30 episodes back to back. Yesterday, he did one of his continuous listens and then sent me messages with comments, and one of these made me think because I absolutely agree with him.His comment was this: people get so worked up, they are so paranoid about plastic gloves at the supermarket, but then at home any reasonable person should wash the fruit, but they have no problem entering fitting rooms and trying on clothing, even intimate clothing, touched and tried on by who knows how many other people.

That's it, trying on clothes is a problem I hadn't considered. I am a frequent visitor to second-hand stores, where it's obvious that clothes have not only been touched but also worn by other people. And I have to tell the truth, I don't always have the patience to rinse everything before wearing it. This is a problem, I mean, my mom raised me to wash everything, even things just taken out of the store, still in their packaging. If she doesn't wash it, she won't wear it.

Let's say I didn't follow my mother's teachings. Alas, I never wash the things I buy in the store, and sometimes when I'm in a hurry to wear something, even if I buy it, I know you shouldn't... and it comes to mind, what are the diseases that are transmitted through fabric of shirts or pants? No, I'm not sure. Leprosy! Surely leprosy is transmitted through... the plague! Yes, the plague. I remember they used to burn the clothes of plague-stricken people, but I don't think there have been major waves of diseases like the plague after COVID.

But let's think about it: sometimes we focus on certain things, we become really paranoid and completely ignore others.Well, I'll try to always wash everything before wearing it, even once purchased in the store, even though I don't plan on buying many things.

    TRASCRIZIONE [Eng translation below]

    TRANSLATION
It may be the heat, it may be the scorching nights where you sweat despite open windows. I got carried away by the whim of vacations, so when I came across a website that promises to use generative artificial intelligence to suggest the ideal vacation, I opened the site and started asking.

I started with questions, the first one that came to my mind: suggest uniqueness of artistic cities, and it's no surprise that it proposed Paris, Berlin, Florence, New York. Then I thought of asking something a bit more specific, so I asked, suggest a city to visit described in a novel. And it suggested, then: London, with "A Tale of Two Cities" by Dickens, Paris, always Paris, with "Les Misérables" by Victor Hugo, then St. Petersburg, "Crime and Punishment," a book I've read and liked, even though it made me angry, and then Dublin with "Ulysses."

Then I raised the stakes and asked, well, suggest me a city, from cities to go on vacation, cities described in mystery novels. So, in first place, Stockholm with "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," then Los Angeles, "The Big Sleep," Edinburgh, where Inspector Rebus series are set, and then Tokyo, which is in the novel "Out" that I don't remember reading.

So, at this point, I wanted to ask suggest me cities to go on vacation, cities that have been described in movies, and I couldn't go on because the app, or rather this website told me oh, you have reached the allowed limit for using this service for free! No way!

Well then, let's forget about this site, alright, I'll give you the link, but you can only make like three or four requests, I'm going to get my books, I'm going to review the movie titles, I'm going to be surprised by Netflix, and I'm going to choose my vacation myself, even though I've already chosen the destination for this year's vacation.I won't say it because I'm superstitious and you say things when you do them, but I've already decided, and let's forget about these things here.

Seriously, who spends $10 a month to be told by a robot where to go on vacation? Has the world really lost its sanity? I mean, if you don't know where to go on vacation, send me a message and I'll suggest it to you, uh.

    TRASCRIZIONE [ENG translation below]

    TRANSLATION
This morning, for the first time in a while, I went back to walking along the Poetto beach early in the morning. It's not super early, but being here at 6 means leaving the house and waking up so early. We're in the middle of summer, so the nights are very hot and sleeping is a bit disordered.

When we come to walk in the morning early, my routine is to splash some water on my face and brush my teeth. I never have breakfast and basically, I get dressed with my eyes closed because I'm not a very talkative person in the morning. I don't like to talk right after waking up. My day usually starts after my first big cup of coffee and as I mentioned before, when I walk in the morning I prefer to come without drinking coffee because otherwise, I'll be too jittery in my stomach while walking. It's getting very hot, so it becomes problematic to do physical activity after a certain hour because you risk collapsing.

The morning crowd is wonderful. The beach in the morning is fantastic. Then, as days go by, all the characters start to show up. Just now, I crossed paths with the lady who feeds the kittens with her little bowls of kibble. Now she's coming toward me. There's a group of three elderly bellied gentlemen chatting and discussing life matters, probably work, taxes, and those ladies I used to meet when we came here. "Good morning!" There you go, they recognized me despite all this time that has passed. Sometimes, you also come across boys and girls who are still here after staying up late the previous night. It's nice, as you can feel, it's windy, so it's a windy day. I just crossed paths with some girls who clearly spent the night on the beach because they had the look of people who stayed up all night and came from the beach.

  • 3' grezzi Ep. 553 Fotografie inventate
Teniamolo presente.

    TRASCRIZIONE [ENG translation below]

    TRANSLATION

Today, thanks to all the tools we have at our fingertips to edit photographs, when we take a photo, we represent reality less and less surrounding us, but we manipulate reality more and more to fit our idea of the moment. So, if we take a photo when we're very happy, then we definitely want to make the sky sunnier, the blue more dramatic, and we want the water even more transparent with tools that are available to everyone, many of which are free, we can even remove people we don't like from the beach, we can remove them all, so that we give the impression of being on a beach, the only people there, instead of being on a crowded beach with all the other swimmers. Why am I talking about manipulating photographs?

Photographs have always been a manipulation of reality, even before the existence of digital tools because the mere fact of focusing the camera lens on a specific portion excluded automatically everything that was around. So framing, from above, from below, still gave our interpretation.
But it was a limited interpretation, today we can do much more with the tools available on practically every mobile phone, as I said, many are also free. What we are doing, though, without realizing it, is manipulating what we will leave to future generations. Because if I go to my mom's house and take the tin box where the photographs are, those, apart from the fact that they are paper photos and therefore they are yellowed, aged, you can tell they are old photos, they have a different color, so they carry their own history.

And they are the same photos I used to hold as a child, even though they seemed less old to me back then. Now, with digital images, this is no longer possible. First of all, because we don't have anything in our hands, but they always seem as if we just took them, just created them.
And we are transferring to those who come after us a reality that we have imagined because increasingly photographs are used not so much to represent the past, to represent something that happened, but more and more to present the best version of ourselves, as we want others to see us. So a reality that is increasingly mediated, a reality that is increasingly close to memories.

And as we know, memories are always very subjective, they are never objective. Just think about it.

Bello!

    TRASCRIZIONE [Eng translation further down]

    TRANSLATION
I'm a big chatterbox. I like to talk, especially with people I don't know, and sometimes I find myself having long conversations with people I contact for reasons completely unrelated to friendship or small talk.

I remember one time when I contacted the call center of... I can't remember if it was electricity or telephone, but anyway, I had to discuss either a bill that hadn't arrived or a payment that hadn't reached them. So, amidst the small talk, the person at the call center, who was a young boy, asked me what I do. And I started telling him that I was preparing an application for, well, I can't remember, maybe financing for an artistic project, a podcast. And he asked me what podcasts are, so I started explaining. Then, on his own accord, he told me that he would also like to pursue his dreams and casually mentioned, out of the blue, "I've just been released from prison."

Boom! I was quite taken aback because he said it in the most natural way possible, and I'm quite the talkative type. But it felt wrong to ask, which is the first thing that comes to mind when someone says, "I've been to prison" (it hasn't happened to me many times, but most of the time I know why people I know, especially from my neighborhood when I was a girl, end up in prison). But when someone you've just met says, "I've just been released from prison," the first question that comes to mind, the one we've learned we should never ask, is "Why did you end up in prison?"

So, at the time, I remember holding back my curiosity, which is why I still don't know why this young and nice boy ended up in prison. I hope it was for something like stealing money or trying to deceive someone and not for violent crimes.

This habit of chatting with people I interact with for completely different reasons than friendship remains with me. In fact, just a few days ago, I found myself chatting via email with someone for a matter unrelated to friendship, a bureaucratic thing, and with this person, we started exchanging details, even private ones, about our lives.

It's absolutely amusing because this person has clearly had a super interesting life, and as a child, I'll just tell you that they used to play with Walter Matthau's son. Yes, they just dropped that bombshell. Just like that, out of the blue. They're a very likable person, and I think we're even becoming friends because the emails are getting longer and more personal.

  • 3' grezzi Ep. 551 Millepiedi giganti. Decapitati.
Qualcuno sta facendo stragi di millepiedi giganti decapitandoli! Mistero ancora irrisolto!

    TRASCRIZIONE [ENG translation below]

Decapitati.

    TRANSLATION
Imagine the scene: you're taking a stroll in the countryside of Massachusetts, specifically on Tuckernuck Island, and suddenly you start finding the headless corpses of these giant millipedes on the ground. Decapitated. It's like a horror movie.

No, it's not a horror movie. It's been happening for several decades. And the funny thing, well, not funny for the millipedes but for those around, for the scientists racking their brains, is that no one knows what has caused, what is causing this mass mortality, this decapitation of giant millipedes.
So, the giant millipede is, you know what a millipede is, right? It's that kind of creepy worm. The giant ones, well, they can reach - I checked - 33 centimeters long. The peculiar thing is that these dead millipedes are found decapitated, missing the first five segments. You know, they're made up of little rings, each ring is a segment, and the first five segments are the ones missing.

Now the scientists, I repeat, for decades, have been trying to find out which animal is to blame for this. It can only be an animal responsible for this. And a couple of facts have been put together.
So, giant millipedes are venomous, but the venomous part is in the head and the first few segments. So, scientists think there is an animal that has learned through trial and error, by eating them and dying, to identify the venomous part of the millipede, so it goes on raids, some it eats, some it doesn't.

But when I read this article - I'll also put the link in the program notes - it really threw me into a Grimm brothers' fairy tale, and I'm back to the point I started these raw 3 minutes. Just imagine going for a walk, a countryside outing, completely unaware of what's around you, and then you start finding these decapitated giant millipedes scattered on the ground.

I don't know what, I don't know how I would react. I've seen many horror movies, I've read books about supernatural events, but imagine going back to town, just like in the best horror movies, saying, "Oh, I found all these decapitated millipedes," and people saying, "Well, someone must have played a prank on you," and you start putting together all possible and imaginable conjectures to find an explanation for this.

Anyway, if you're interested, the mystery has not yet been solved, so you still have the chance to delve into books, take a trip to Massachusetts, and try to discover this animal, this bird, this mammal that raids giant millipedes.

    TRASCRIZIONE [ENG translation below]

È la ragazza cinese, no, io lo so come sta, sta bene, no, ci vediamo a casa! No, no, noi queste cose non le facciamo.

    TRANSLATION
Every now and then, I remember to treat myself to the luxury of getting my nails done. I say 'remember' because I'm not someone who usually wears makeup or does these things. Even getting nail polish on for me is a luxury because it truly doesn't belong to my way of thinking.

But when I do it, I really enjoy it. Oh, I should do it more often! But then literally, I forget about it.So, yesterday I did it. I had about 40 minutes of free time to spare, and I did it. And as always, when I do these things, it's a very interesting listening experience.

So, imagine, I walk into this place, a place run by Asians because it's cheaper, of course. I sit down and wait for my turn. The two girls doing the nails are Chinese. They talk to each other in rapid-fire Chinese, and then another customer next to me is a very young Filipino girl.

And that's when these exchanges begin. Apparently, the Filipino girl knows the two Chinese girls because they call each other by name, and then they ask each other how their fathers are, how their mothers are, and that's where the interesting part begins. So, the Chinese girl asks the Filipino customer how her father is doing, and the girl says, "I don't know, it's been over a year since we last spoke." And then they start talking about their family dynamics. It seems that both of them have this thing where they don't talk to their siblings, brothers, mother, daughter for years. Then I found out that the Filipino girl's parents are divorced, and while before, when her mother was with her father, she literally said, "My mother was a witch. She was always angry, always in a bad mood. Now, since she's alone, she's always smiling."

And then I found out that the Chinese girl never goes out with her husband or partner, I don't know if they're married, and they never go out for dinner, which is something unheard of, going out to dinner with your partner or husband, they just stay at home. The Filipino girl was quite shocked, but she asked, "Don't you ever call your husband to ask how he's doing?" And the Chinese girl replied, "No, I know how he's doing, he's fine. No, we see each other at home! Well, don't you go out, don't you pamper each other?" To which the Chinese girl responded, "No, no, we don't do these things. In our culture, we don't do these things. He is fine, I can see it, there's no need for me to ask."

I was there trying not to pull out my recorder, but it was really entertaining. Well, I enjoy listening to people talk about things that are completely foreign to my world.

    TRASCRIZIONE [ENG translation below]

Viva l'orca!

    TRANSLATION
We humans are not the only ones who have fashion trends for colors and clothes that change with seasons. Even in the animal kingdom, there are some who follow fashion. I'm talking about orcas, also known as killer whales, although I don't understand why they are called "killer" when they are just doing what animals do.

Orcas are large cetaceans, protected species, and they spend a significant part of their day moving around in search of food. During these travels, they engage in play to avoid boredom, and sometimes these games take on the form of fashion.

In the late 1980s, a group of orcas that was being studied and observed for scientific purposes caught attention. Someone noticed that one of the orcas had placed a dead salmon on its head and was swimming around with its head above the water, wearing the salmon like a hat. Soon enough, many other orcas, not only from the same pod but also from different pods, started imitating this behavior, wearing dead salmon hats.

Thus, a trend emerged. But just as it started, it vanished abruptly. In recent years, there has been another trend among orcas: attacking small boats, sometimes even destroying them. This behavior has been observed along the coasts of France, Spain, and Portugal, to the extent that in some areas, the passage of small boats has been prohibited. The reasons behind these trends, their emergence and disappearance, remain unknown.

One hypothesis suggests that orcas enjoy the sensation of bubbles created by boat propellers on their faces, similar to a massage. When boats are not producing these bubbles, the orcas may intentionally engage with them to provoke the bubbles. However, the exact motivation is uncertain. Another explanation is that one orca may have had a negative encounter with a boat that was potentially disturbing it, leading to a grudge, and other orcas subsequently adopted the behavior.

It is fascinating to observe how these behaviors and trends emerge and spread among different pods of orcas. It is important to note that orcas are magnificent creatures, beautiful and majestic. They are a protected species. When I read such news, I am reminded that we, as humans, are meant to inhabit the land. We have expanded our presence to the sky and the depths of the oceans, but the sea is the orcas' home. Whatever they do in their home, it is us who should make the adjustments. If they have these trends, well, good for them. What can I say? Long live the orca!

  • 3' grezzi Ep. 548 Aggredita dall'oca assassina
Eppure...

    TRASCRIZIONE [Eng. translation below]

A me piacciono gli animali. .

    TRANSLATION
There's a goose that hates me. This goose is located in Pula, at my mother-in-law's house in the countryside. She has a nice piece of land near the sea, with animals, chickens. And the killer goose. It's a goose that every time I arrive, it can hear me coming from afar and starts honking very aggressively.

Until recently, I used to approach it too because when I arrive, I like to always go and see the animals. I don't have chickens or geese at home, so I enjoy going to see them. There are also fig trees, olive trees, so I have the impression of being in the middle of the countryside.

Until recently, the killer goose limited itself to... no, "honking" is not the right verb, I should say "barking," so it would honk at me more or less aggressively, extending its neck, tucking its wings back, trying to appear bigger. I should add, I have never hurt it. I like animals, in fact, I respect them. Sometimes I change its water in the basin where it likes to dive and bathe. So, from its perspective, I'm actually a kind person.

Well, the killer goose attacked me, it attacked me by pecking my arm, cutting my skin, making me bleed, and even causing a bruise, but it's not too serious because I disinfected it, but it shocked me. I had never been attacked by an animal so violently, let alone by a goose. I like animals. I was just walking around, enjoying the bucolic scenery, and this one came charging at me. I tried to move its neck, which really startled me.

I was scared, I didn't want to hurt it. And this flexible neck that bent as if nothing was happening, then it stuck its tongue out of its beak and blew, blowing at me until it pecked me on my right forearm, and I'm looking at it now, it still hurts, it's a bit swollen, well... nothing serious.

People in Pula tell me I've been too kind, that one way to make it stop is to pull its neck. I can't bring myself to pull the goose's neck, I just can't. Then, after being attacked, I went back outside the enclosure to look at it, and it looked at me very badly, getting ready to attack me again. I really don't know what I did to this goose.

I don't know what I did to hurt it. I will have to bring it gifts to make amends for something that, I swear, I've never done any harm to it.
