A weekly shiur by Dayan Levi Yitzchok Raskin, Rov of Anash in London, explores interesting Torah questions and halachic dilemmas.
1) After lighting candles for Shabbos, my wife realized that the hot food was not on the hotplate. Was she permitted to place the food there before nightfall? [1]
2) Sefer Haminhogim-Chabad states that when we kneel and bow down on RH & YK, if the floor is wooden, we aren’t particular to have a cloth beneath us. What about granite or marble floors?[2]
3) On a fast-day, in the silent Amidah we include Aneinu in the brocho שומע תפלה, whereas the Chazan recites it as a separate brocho - between Go’eil Yisroel and Refoeinu. If he forgot there, he should incorporate it in שומע תפלה. If he forgot there too, he says it after שים שלום. Does he conclude it with ברוך אתה ה'? [3]
4) At Netilas Yodayim, need one be able to see the Challos or the table they are on? [4]
5) A Jew wishes to buy an apartment on a site which reputedly was once a non-Jewish cemetery. He is not a Kohen. Is there a reason for him not to buy there? [5]
6) May a man roll up his beard on Shabbos? What about walking in the street on Shabbos while wearing a clip to hold the rolled-up beard in place?[6]
7) I burn my piece of Challoh-dough - wrapped in foil - on top of the stove. I recently read that this makes my stove Treif. Instead, he advises to pour bleach over it and throw it in the garbage (which gets burned anyway). What are your thoughts on that? [7]
8) I was chazan for Shacharis. At ישתבח I didn’t see ten males present, so I went thru straight into Yoitzeir Oir. Someone then
9) Feedback on gap at end of Shema in Tefilin; Ketores before Mincha-Gedola:
