This week I’m joined by Tobi Oredein. Tobi is the co-founder and Editor-in-Chief of Black Ballad which is a subscription lifestyle magazine written by and for black British women. Tobi and her co-founder Bola Awoniyi were named as Forbes 30 Under 30. Tobi is also a freelance journalist, and her work has appeared in BuzzFeed, The Pool and The Debrief to name a few.


In today’s episode, Tobi opens up about why Black Ballad became a subscription-based site and how she handled the results of her market research telling her not to. We talk about her reluctance to be an entrepreneur, building a thriving culture that gets people invested and finally all of those wanting to quit and shut it down.
