The Question
For those who are new to the blog, or for those who haven't figured this out by now, we are saints who meet outside the typical, American church system. Some people call what we do "organic church". Admittedly, that is what Bridget, R.C., and Wesley all moved across the country for a few years ago: organic church. What we've all discovered over the past four and five years is that this "organic church" thing wasn't just another way to "do" church. It was simply a term to help more easily identify what was happening. We no longer aspire to be a part of an "organic church", but to be built together with, function together with, and express the nature of Jesus Christ with His Church: the ecclesia. In this podcast, the four of us wanted to discuss the definition of organic church, and well, frankly, the Lord took us in an interesting direction. What is posted here is the first part of our conversation (heavily edited for time and shenanigans) with part 2 currently slated to post next Monday, November 24th.
So, the question that we discuss here is:
What is Organic Church?
Again, we have all lived in, participated in, and experienced "organic church life" for over 4 years each. Our answers stem from that experience with Christ and His Body. We would love to hear your thoughts in the comments section.
The Song
The song chosen to play before and after our conversation is "Setting Our Tables" by The Last Bison. This is the same group used last time, and I thought the title was appropriate for topic of conversation: we're setting our tables for this juicy dialogue. The lyrics are below:
Our forks and knives
They work with antlers side by side
They’re gnawing at the withered pine
Hoping she’s the one
As the Red Deer relate to
The month of April.
So do we wait patiently
To set our tables
Our forks and knives
They work with antlers side by side
They’re gnawing at the withered pine
Hoping she’s the one
And my Father’s Bride
Is tearing down the mountain side
Soon the trees will all align
Leaving us with Sons
Cast them later than the older ones
Until September when they have become
Fully covered in a velvet skin
Till they’re just like the shrubs and saplings they defend
As the skin sheds slowly
The mount becomes more stable
And I would climb to redefine
The path if I were able
