I had the pleasure of speaking with Sandee Sgarlata, Author of "Happiness Solved", host of the "Happiness Solved" Podcast, and America's Happiness Coach. We talked about happiness, obviously, but also grief, because that's how life is.
Sandee's happiness work was inspired by trauma, which I could relate to. I find it so beautiful when we can transform pain into purpose and pleasure. Sandee shares her experience of losing her older brother when she was 12 and how her grief led her down a path of PTSD, anxiety, and drug use.
Just as I worried that pleasure was "not in the cards for me" after my traumas, Sandee shared that she did not allow herself to be happy because she was sure if she did, something else tragic would happen. We talked about our mindset, self worth, limiting beliefs, and fear and how we personally remind ourselves to fully engage in all emotions, including happiness.
And, of course, we talked about gratitude with perspective. "Our worst days are better than millions of people's best days", Sandee says. So true.
