Hilliard & Chris met on zoom with talented writer, director, and producer David Shen Miller - and talked about his work on his amazing animated short film “The Cocoon,” which just screened and won Best Animated Short at the Arizona Film Festival! The film also premiered at the Dallas International Film Festival and continued its run at New York Cinefest.
David’s films often explore themes of identity, paradox, and disillusionment, as seen in the “The Cocoon.” In the short film, he tells the story of a man who inadvertently creates more of a mess as he tries to clean his room. David wrote, directed, and produced this animated short film, which is his first animation directorial, in association with Confidential Creative. Featuring over 11,000 frames of hybrid hand-drawn and computer-generated animation, the film marks David’s directorial debut in the animation genre. Among various awards and accolades, the film is also currently nominated for a Remi Award from WorldFest Houston International Film Festival.
David’s work is both imaginative and thought-provoking, which he is excited to prove further in his upcoming live action short film, “Paint It Black,” an existential dark-comedy about two brothers who can’t stand each other on a fishing trip gone wrong.
