The Queensland Ambulance Service has had a busy few days as Southeast Queensland prepared for the arrival of the cyclone.

Pressure on the QAS is set to continue over the coming days as residents begin to venture outside, clean up their homes and recover from the significant weather event.

Queensland Ambulance Commissioner, Craig Emery told Peter Fegan, "You're not only putting yourself at risk, but you are putting the rescuers at risk so consideration along those lines is much appreciated."

The Commissioner warned that floodwater can be particularly dangerous due to animals, snakes, electricity and bacteria that can be found in the water.

Ex-Cyclone Alfred has been downgraded to a tropical low and heavy rainfall and flash flooding can be expected across the Southeast.

In light of this, many residents are wondering when Council services will be back online.

Ipswich Mayor, Teresa Harding told Peter Fegan on 4BC's Special Coverage, "There is a real focus on getting services back up and running on Monday, and we'll make that call tomorrow [Sunday] about what council services are open."

4BC has recieved reports thatsome aged care facilities in the southeast are without power amid ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred.

Federal Aged Care Minister Anika Wells told Peter Fegan on 4BC's Special Coverage, "One of the things we did on coming to government was require that every home had a risk management plan in place."

"We've been in continuous contact with them, checking on their supplies and arranging fuel for those generators where it's required and I know that your callers have raised concerns about Tricare, Ashgrove and there's Wellington Park care."

"I've had my department check in on both of those places since your callers raised the alert," Mrs. Wells said.

Queensland Premier David Crisafulli has held a press conference to provide the latest on ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred.

Premier Crisafulli told Queenslanders, "the risk of flash flooding remains" and that everyone should "stay vigilant."

There are over 240,000 South-East Queensland residents without power despite Alfred being downgraded to ex-Tropical Cyclone.

The Gold Coast is the most affected with over 110,000 customers without power, followed by Brisbane, Logan and the Redlands.

Energex Spokesperson Danny Donald told Peter Fegan on 4BC Breakfast, "We don't want to put our crews in harm's way, but the second it is safe to do so, we will be out there."

"We will be out there with the vengeance getting this one," Danny Donald said.

Since the January 2011 flood, the Manual of Operational Procedures for Flood Mitigation at Wivenhoe Dam and Somerset Dam has undergone nine revisions with a major revision.

Ahead of Cyclone Alfred's arrival, Wivenhoe Dam is currently at about 86 per cent and no flood releases have occurred yet.

Peter Fegan asked Seqwater CEO Emma Thomas when water may begin being released, and Ms. Thomas replied, "Well, it depends on a number of factors... but we will probably start releasing in the coming days, anywhere from 48 to 72 hours, but that's not an exact figure either."

There are currently tens of thousands of South-East Queensland residents without power at the moment with most of the outages on the Gold Coast so far.

Energex Spokesperson Danny Donald told Peter Fegan on 4BC Breakfast, "If you've got no power now, just be aware that you may not have power until well after the cyclone passes."

"When the emergency services and the professionals say it's too dangerous, we take heed and take note."
