For those who know, DJ Rocca is an absolute force in electronic music, always conjuring up something surprising and inspiring. He started to produce music in the late 1990s working on some drum&bass and breakbeat singles as Maffia Soundsystem from the same name club in Italy (repping in the photo above). His music has appeared on what we've called "a kind of gold standard for modern dance music," including Compost, Rekids, Futureboogie, !K7, Gomma, Hell Yeah, Slow Motion, Paper Recordings, Sonar Kollektiv, Classic, Skint, Defected, Gomma and more.

@dj-rocca made this mix on Friday, which makes it most likely our first true Quarantine mix. His latest release is Ever Changing Bubbles with Leo Almunia (Deep88 Remixes) which you can pre-order on wax here from Claremont 56: https://claremont56.bandcamp.com/album/ever-changing-bubbles-deep88-remixes

.. and "Da Lion Groove" on Samosa Records' Funk Purpose Vol 3 Part 2: https://youtu.be/EcR5_zTPsKQ

It has been nearly two years since Ben Gomori outed himself as "G. Markus," the mysterious deep house producer created as an alias for Ben's "deeper, trackier stuff." And it's 2020 and "G. Markus" still has a better recording career than I do, and I'm real.

@bengomori is a DJ, producer, podcaster, label owner and event curator who runs Monologues Records, official afro edits series Sterns Edits and G-Edits. He also produces and hosts the podcasts/radio shows/video series Turned On, Monologues and RecordReplay. His latest jam is one of G. Markus' secret weapons, "Bassed God" on the Fate And Fiction Recordings V/A EP, out March 27 and which you can listen to and pre-order here: https://bit.ly/2Ja8fGJ

It was at the start of lockdown in America (which feels like it was two months ago but was only a week ago) that Peter Croce wrote something in his label @rocksteadydisco 's excellent newletter that stuck with me.

"I'm a little bugged out about it," he wrote. "I feel like Rocksteady Disco's entire mission is to COMBAT social distancing and isolation. I believe we need to do it because we need to take care of one another and those with compromised health."

That contradiction more than anything is why we started StayHomeDisco and why we'll continue for so long as anyone is listening.

Peter is the head of Rocksteady Disco, which Lauren Krieger profiled for 5 Mag last summer. While you're here check out his presumably extremely new or extremely prophetic Social Distance Edits on Bandcamp: https://rocksteadydisco.bandcamp.com/

Microdot has been holding it down for the raw-as-hell techno sound that Chicago and the Midwest has always repped. The IHeartTechno parties are among the city's most consistently solid residencies and coming in 2020 will expand the brand with a 2 day campout in Central Illinois. Here's his new 5 Mag Mix.

DJ SGZ is a fascinating figure. From South Africa, he worked with figures and labels including Distant People, Tom Conrad, Adaptation Music, Peng Africa and more. He stepped away from production in 2019. "I worked with a lot of great people and got ripped off by many," he says. "I'm not complaining, instead I'm glad because they taught me the game and now I'm coming back strong."

"Why Would I" was originally titled "Butterflys," because "a butterfly is a symbol of resurrection. I knew that this was going to be my comeback song," SGZ says.

We asked him about the making of the track for our newish feature The Teardown, inside the making of some new and classic electronic music tracks.
