5 Mag's new mix series RISE returns with this week's set from Dublin-based DJ Glenn Davis @gsoul

Glenn Davis is a DJ and producer praised in these pages and others for his incredibly vibrant deep house tracks on labels including F*CLR, Yore, D1, LDF and A Deeper Groove. We premiered one of his tracks from his Better Daze EP on Yore a few months ago.

Davis has a track coming soon on a forthcoming Local Talk compilation and a record on a new Berlin label called Ascension on Wax — the latter featuring "a remix from one of my favorite producers Mark Hand." Also in the pipe are remixes for DJ/producer Craig Smith and DJ Gratts.

5 Mag launches a new mix series today, with a set from our friend Rissa Garcia.

RISE is a weekly mix series, posted every Monday and featuring DJs from all genres that we cover. Not too long ago, 5 Mag used to do another weekly mix series debuting every Monday, and it seemed like it set things off in a good way - a good start to the work week and something to get you through. Words like "uplifting" and "motivating" mean different things to different people, but we hope the music brings something positive to you.

@rissa Garcia was one of those original 5 Mag Monday DJs, and is someone whose career and love of music has continued to shine. Based in NYC, Rissa is the Dancing Room Only resident DJ, a producer and founder of NightChild Records. She's shared the decks with legends Danny Tenaglia, Danny Krivit, Todd Terry, Tony Humphries, Chez Damier and Ultra Nate; she'll be playing with several more at the "LGNDS" event this December 17 2022 with Boris, Kenny Dope, Mark Knight and Oscar G.

Thanks for listening ✌️

There are few signatures of quality in the modern age, but a deep house record with a Black Loops track or remix on the sticker is a good an indicator that you're about to listen to some first class music. The brilliant Italian producer, DJ (and ex-drummer)does the work on this 60 minute mix from 5 Mag's latest issue.

Our friend Steve Mill returns to the pages of 5 Mag with the release of "The Mistake" featuring gorgeous vocals from Geraldine, with a UKG-inspired remix from Amalle & Yambow premiered here and out now on Tensnake's True Romance.

🎙 Steve Mill - We first met @steve-mill more than a decade ago when we were floored by the sophisticated sound of his early releases. Since then, the Greek-born artists has released records on labels including Madhouse and Chicago's Large Music and, more recently, True Romance, Dirt Crew and his own Simples.

🎧 Amalle & Yambow - The duo @amallemusic and @yambow slice & dice up "The Mistake" into a deceptively energetic workout.

🏷 True Romance - "Music, hot and humid," @trueromancerec was founded by @tensnake . This latest release from Steve Mill features Geraldine on vocals and remixes by Amalle & Yambow and Tensnake himself.

Deep, dubby and a little tech'd out: Snad (Courtesy of Balance / Kimochi Sound) serves up a delightful remix of deep house veteran Seafoam's "Ha!" from his Swing Set EP, out now on 12" vinyl from our friends Deep Club.

🔗 Link - https://deepclub.bandcamp.com/album/swing-set-ep-dc-07-jewel-series

🎙 Seafoam - Brian Cavender first rose to prominence with three EPs on Chicago's legendary Guidance Recordings, one of the best electronic music labels the city has ever seen. When Rue De Plaisance reissued his "Collected Words 1999-2005" in 2018, it was remarkable to hear how little time had diminished that initial warm and deep funky sound. Back behind the console, Seafoam has released records on UFO Series and FLMB and a whole gang of tracks on Bandcamp - https://seafoam1.bandcamp.com

🎧 Snad - @snad is Inevitable. The Philly producer "with roots in Chicago and Berlin" has been on fire with tracks on Courtesy of Balance, Kimochi and Suol. One of our favorite producers and frequently reviewed in 5 Mag, Snad previously appeared on the A side of Deep Club's Jargon / Syntax Error 12" EP.

🏷 Deep Club - @deepclubus has been a party, a collective and a vinyl label, well-travelled from Denver to New York City with deeper roots in Chicago. The Swing Set EP is their first of 2022. Check out their back catalog here - https://deepclub.bandcamp.com

📆 Out June 20 2022 on 12" vinyl from Deep Club

Marvin Prather is Eternal Student — a veteran Detroit DJ, party promoter, a fixture from the early days of the scene and one of the true musical heroes in a city that never seems to stop surprising. Marvin grew up in the days of the Music Institute and after school sessions with Radio Shack mixers and whatever records everyone could buy. And then, after decades in the scene and forty years of musical study, he blew us away with "Hear Me Though," his vinyl debut on Moods & Grooves. It opened a new chapter in a career that it's correct to say began both in his teens, when he began DJing, and in his early 50s, when he made his first tracks.

If you need inspiration, Marvin's story will provide it — the profile in this issue is one of our favorites we've published this year. And if you need an inspiring deep house set right now, we have you covered too. Eternal Student's cover mix for this issue is "a mix of some tunes I've been digging lately," he says, "a couple of throwback and ends with an unreleased Eternal Student track."
