Narcissists, Gaslighters, and Cheaters, Oh My!

50 Shades of D&D

Listen Later

In this eye-opening episode of Narcissists, Gaslighters and Cheaters, Oh My!, hosts Behk and LAH sit down with Charlotte Rivers, a brave woman who shares her unsettling experience within the gaming community, which was marred by toxic masculinity. Charlotte takes us through her journey of finding a supportive, inclusive gaming community—only for it to be shattered by rampant sexism and harassment.

Charlotte opens up about her experience with a local gaming store owner who crossed boundaries with inappropriate comments and even coerced her into an uncomfortable back rub. When Charlotte stood up for herself, she was banned from both the store and the wider gaming community. Even worse, no one came to her defense, and she was left to face the fallout alone.

The conversation takes a darker turn when Charlotte explains how, after leaving a truthful review of the store, the owner and his wife launched an online smear campaign against her. They accused her of cheating on her deployed husband and even threatened her.

This episode is a sobering reminder of the importance of calling out toxic behavior, especially when it comes from men who have the power to protect or harm women in these spaces. We discuss how the gaming world—and society at large—needs men to step up and challenge harmful behavior when they see it, rather than stay silent.

Charlotte's strength and resilience in the face of this injustice are truly inspiring. Listen in to hear how she fought back and how we can all work together to create safer, more respectful environments for everyone.
