Louis de Bernières talks about the life and poetry of Cavafy.

Louis de Bernières, who lives in Norfolk, published his first novel in 1990 and was selected by Granta magazine as one of the twenty Best of Young British Novelists in 1993. Since then he has become well known internationally as a writer, with Captain Corelli's Mandolin winning the Commonwealth Writers' Prize for Best Novel in 1994. His sixth novel, the acclaimed Birds Without Wings, came out in 2004., A Partisan's Daughter (2008) was shortlisted for the Costa Novel Award and Notwithstanding: Stories from an English Village was published in Autumn 2009, followed by de Bernieres’ first collection of poetry, Imagining Alexandria: Poems in Memory of Constantinos Cavafis, in 2013; it is also available in audio, read by the author. Publication of his major new novel, The Dust That Falls From Dreams, was in July 2015, and his new collection of poems, OF LOVE AND DESIRE, is out in February 2016.

As well as writing, de Bernieres plays the flute, mandolin and guitar.

Luke Wright on a poet's journey around Britain's service stations.

Luke Wright is one of the country's hottest young poets. His debut theatre show Luke Wright, Poet Laureate, played the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2006, racking up many five star reviews and paving the way for a 25+ date UK tour in 2007. Then followed Poet&Man, A Poet's Work is Never Done and most recently The Petty Concerns of Luke Wright. In all his shows Wright mixes poetry with anecdotal stand-up. Luke has curated The Poetry Arena at The Latitude Festival since 2006. He is a regular contributor to BBC Radio, in 2008 he became a 'poet-in-residence' on BBC Radio 4's Saturday Live. In 2007 Wright self-released a spoken word album called The Rise&Fall of Luke Wright, Esq. Later that year Penguin published Who Writes This Crap? a book of parodies written with fellow Aisle16 poet Joel Stickley.

Deborah Levy weaves a magical tale.

Deborah Levy trained at Dartington College of Arts leaving in 1981 to write a number of plays, highly acclaimed for their "intellectual rigour, poetic fantasy and visual imagination", including Pax and Heresies for the Royal Shakespeare, Deborah's early novels, Beautiful Mutants, Swallowing Geography and The Unloved have just been reprinted by Penguin. Her new acclaimed autobiographical essay, Things I Don't Want to Know, a response to Orwell's essay, Why I Write, was described by The Guardian as "original, unmissable, like chancing upon an oasis. The writing is of such quality that you want to drink it slowly." It is now out in paperback, also published by Penguin. In 2012 Deborah was nominated for the Booker Prize for her novel Swimming Home. She has always written across a number of art forms, theatre, performance, visual art and was AHRB Fellow at the Royal College of Art from 2006-9.
